Pats not trading Garoppolo - Schefter

I agree with the second paragraph but not the first. I don't see how you can say JG is twice the QB Brady was in his third year when JG has only played a little more than 5 meaningful quarters before being injured. He shows a lot of promise and played pretty well in a limited time.

I thought the Pats would trade JG but I also think Andy Johnson is right. JG is hard to trade for two 1st rounders. If they get a 1 plus anything else, that's a pretty damn good deal. Let's hope I'm wrong and you're right!

if you were paying attention to his execution in those 5 quarters (movement in the pocket, seeing the field), you know he's not Brock Osweiler

the real question is how long the pats front office is going to play chicken with brady

the bottom does not appear nearly as deep with JG here, and there is literally nothing you can get with those draft picks to compensate for not having a viable starting QB

Absolute worst case is we don't even get a compensatory because they are not guaranteed.

Absolute worst case is a hellmouth opens up in East Rutherford that eats up all sentient live and ends human existence forever.

for some reason, people believe things have changed since the pats tagged cassell and wound up getting a 2nd rounder for him.......the pats have a ton more cap space now than they did then

Nonetheless, compensatory picks are not guaranteed.

in his time on the field, JG showed more than anyone in his first couple of starts.....he's been trained and he is ready....he is twice the QB that Brady was in 2002 (3rd year)

I don't think people realize how at his age, how quickly Brady can turn into Steve DeBerg
the bolded has to be the single stupidest statement ever typed on this board

Sorry but you got conditioned to think that by the media. No player in any sport will suddenly decline over night without suffering some kind of injury.

This is a process that happens over time. You might say that it happens quicker with older players but we are still talking months not from week-to-week. And generally injuries have to do with that. You could see the end coming with Manning almost 1.5 season ahead. This was not something that just happened over the offseason.

except it was a neck injury that had manning go off the cliff

only to an idiot who doesn't know what he's looking at
Just the response I would expect from someone who made the dumbest comment in the history of the board.

You make a lot of good points, but I think we just have a different opinion on Jimmy G.
If Jimmy G stays with the Pats, I hope your evaluation of him is more accurate, as it would probably lead to more titles.

my point is more about his value

Mike Glennon is supposedly signing a 14M-15M deal with the Bears today.........

I don't remember any neck injury after his record setting season with the Broncos. It was more the cumulative effect of not taking care of his body, arm strength fading and suffering a couple of minor injuries that started to add up.

You can't really exclude the second part of 2012 and the entire 2013 where he played good-to-great just to connect everything back to the neck injury.

Jimmy should be a good to great starter in 2018. If he gets to play 2017. I think Jimmy's first year as a starter will be good and if he stays healthy he will eventually be a great starting QB. Will he ever be Brady? **** no. Will he be better than Brady when Brady is 41 years old? Maybe. When Brady is 42 years old? most likely. So basically if you use common sense you have 2 more elite years of Brady. And then JG takes over in 2019.

This causes issues of course if thats what they are thinking. I have never heard of a team paying 2 QB's top money. And its also telling Brady we are moving on with JG in 2019.. how would Brady feel about that knowing that they are spending money on his replacement rather than maximizing there assets to winning another Super Bowl.

Bottom line if your the Patriots your thinking Tom has 2 more years left of elite level play. And another year or 2 of declining play before retirement.

So if BB thinks JG is the next best QB they can get for the foreseeable future are you really going to trade him away or figure a way to keep him.

You are making huge leaps of faith by claiming Garrapolo will be better than Brady in a year or two. And making a decision to move on from Brady when he is the best player in football is nothing short of batsh.t crazy. Once again you are just employing the Max Kellerman "Brady is going to fall off a cliff " theory, which has zero evidence to back it up. The exact same argument has been made for years and years and Brady has shown no sign of deterioration , and has in fact been getting better. Yet you guys just keep moving the goalposts back year by year. It's no different than Borges, Felger, Mazzerrotti, CHB, Rob Parker etc etc etc...... who promise the end is near and deny the fact that they are serially wrong about everything.

Let's see the evidence that Brady is deteriorating? Not one of you can produce even a shred of it yet you continue to make the same baseless claims with absolute certitude. It's idiocy at its highest level.

If the Pats are comfortable with Brissett as the backup and potentially the QB of the future, you take Cleveland's 12th pick (if they are offering it) and run.

I'd prefer to get at the very least a 3rd in 2018 as well, but if #12 is all that's offered I wouldn't let it slide past draft day.

No way we get 2 #1s. Of course it would be worth 2 #1s for a true franchise QB (assuming JAG is one) but you have to remember most NFL GMs are not very astute and fear bad press/fan publicity.

I agree. That said, that's part of the problem; one of the rumors is that the Patriots aren't comfortable yet having Brissett as the backup. I'll stop now before I cause Patfanken's blood pressure to boil again discussing the mediots' claims....

Outside of this board no one (well not many) people are convinced that JG is a can't miss superstar QB.
