He was drafted in the 1st which means there is a 5th year option. So it would be 2 years as they would pick up the option.

A ton of talent and production obviously. But he's gotten 100+ targets the past two years yet complained about his lack of touches. That really worries me more than any money issues.

Cooks is an explosive player and he would tear it up in this offense, but I can't see them making the deal without an extension in place. And as much as I like him as a player demanding the ball is a real issue, as Brady doesn't tolerate it, and he was behind the Patriots getting rid of Moss, who he loved playing with, once his insistence on throwing it to him got to be too much.

The deadline for New Orleans to exercise the 5th year option is May 2, 2017. The saints have not picked up the option as of yet. Cooks' cap hit would be $1,563,198 for any team that trades for him. Considering what it would take to get him and his vocal displeasure in the offense he is in; I am of the mind to pass on him.

EDIT: would also like to add that the projected cost of the 5th year option is expected to be around $8.5M

But Cooks ate us up in the joint practices, BB seems to really like Cooks, and I think NE is looking for more top end WR talent given the success of press man to man coverage versus us in the playoffs. Cooks is young - certainly understand us trying to get our hands on a player like that. We may not have all the details.

Yea unless Belichick believes Cooks is the next Antonio Brown in his offense, it doesn't really make much sense to pay out the nose for another WR.

I think this is a possibility. We have been looking for a Brees successor for a while, but no luck. I'd love to have Garropollo take over after Brees. He would have learned from two of the greatest to ever play. I just don't see BB pulling the trigger, especially with Cooks contract coming up.

I would think Brees by himself would help a WR's stock/price.

Belichick has been able to find 1000 yard receivers who haven't done/don't cost anything. Cooks is a great receiver, just doesn't seem right that BB would pay for past production.

He's 23. We'd hardly be paying for past productions.
