Pats Fans Game Day Rituals

Boston-area fans, send me a private msg so we can talk about these rituals!

Folks, this is the newspaper writer I was referring to in the original post. Anybody that would like to help out with further details about what they do before the game for the article, please send boston-10 a private message.

thanks

I start the night before checking the weather report and picking out what to wear from my Patriots gear closet (quite a collection built over the last 18 years as a season ticket holder). On game day I drive down 495 to a spot just off the Route 1 North exit where I meet up with my buddy who comes down from upstate New York (a Brookline native), and leave one car. We then park in a private lot about a mile south of Gillette and either tailgate or walk to Patriot Place, where we grab seats at Bar Louie or CBS Scene. My pre-game lunch usually includes a draft of Wachusett blueberry. When tailgating, the menu normally brings charcoal-grilled salmon burgers, salsa and chips, potato salad, coleslaw and fruit pie.

We always enter the stadium about 45 minutes before kickoff to read the Game Day program and watch warm-ups.

It's true. I am the writer in question. Just send private msg so I can discuss the story! Thanks!

Ah, that makes much more sense!

Sorry for scaring people! But seriously, msg me about game day superstitions and rituals!

I don't know if it's a ritual, but I threw my Meriweather jersey in the garbage last year after Braylon Edwards dragged him into the end zone. We haven't lost to the Jets since!

On Sunday gamedays: I get up and go downstairs and turn on my 6 tv's and figure out which games will go on which tv's. Pats always get big screen privileges of course. Wearing a pats t shirt

Light a log in the fireplace. Cook/Eat something seasonal, cold out something chili based. If it is warm out something off the grill or smoker.

Plant my ass on the couch and watch football for 12 hours.

Playoff games usually include food and drinking lots of cold beverages.

I never invite people over for Pats games, and I watch most games by myself with my kids making cameo's here and there.

Does that count as a ritual?

At home I prefer to watch alone so I can focus on the game. My wife gets too intense so she prefers updates and replays of TDs via the DVR.

I have the privilege of a standing invite to former Patriots Fan of the Year (2001!) Randy "Zip" Pierce's home in NH for away games. This Bruschi et. al. fan invites dozens to a feast and has several TVs in different rooms. The main large wide screen family room is filled with Patriots and Bruschi memorabilia as is the rest of the house. Guests bring great dishes and Randy himself prepares appropriate theme dishes (Buff wings, jambalaya) for each opponent. Quite a feat as he's been totally blind for the last decade. Presently he, his guide dog Quinn and friends have been active climbing all the 4000 foot mtns of NE, even this week.

His blindness charity site is...

2020 Vision Quest

Some attendees at Randy's Patriots "Shrine" include Mark Morse who posted in this thread and runs the tailgate (Miguel et. al.) Facebook site and Mrs Bruschi whose training camp posts Patsfans love to read.

You still buy those? I use to go to about 6 home games a year..only about 3 now..and use to collect them from the SB days..stopped getting them about 3 years ago..$10 adds up!

I wear either my Welker or Woodhead jersey while watching the game (my old Pats "lucky" shirt was retired after last year's PO game).

Before the game, I play forts with my daughter using couch cushions and pillows for building blocks, and then, just before kickoff, I put the vodka on standby.

Also, I converse with other Patsfans in the secret talking place.

You mean the programs? They're $5 for regular-season games, but I do think they're $10 for playoff games.

I have many:

-Wear my Wilfork jersey (over a Pats hoodie if it's cold).

-the Pats game page at NFL.com open on my browser during the game.

-Pepperoni, cheese and cracker snacks during the game.

-Beer in my Pats mug which I hold up, say "Go Pats" and take a sip at kickoff.

(Yes, I realize I'm a superstitious dork. )

I beat off to this pic 199 minutes before kickoff

You should repeat it another 5 times afterwards as well....if that's even possible in that time span

I don;t really have any as a fan...I just wear whichever Jersey i prefer, sit back in the recliner, make some nachos, drink some beer and then proceed to p*ss off the neighbors!

Wow I had no idea he went blind. Sorry to hear that. Blind and cooking that is quit the feat!

My only ritual is wearing a jersey. Most of the time I lubricate, though I don't have a "special" or specific lubricant. This Saturday I'll be bringing the crazy fandom to a beer tasting, hopefully to celebrate with some BCBS Vanilla and FouFoune. I really don't want to be chugging big rare beers in a fit of rage. Must win...

WTF is that? Sounds like something from pastry shop or that hoity toity place with the fancy chocolate waterfall my wife likes to go to....

Man up and drink some good ol' American piss beer like Bud or Bud light.

I tap something with the Pats logo three times as soon as possible after kickoff. I usually post something in the gameday thread. If I can, I try to avoid looking at the game clock when the amount of time left is the number of seconds that is 1 greater than 12 (the number I shall not type).

Sometimes, I will put the tv on mute and not watch when the Patriots are on D and it's third down. But I'm not sure this is really a "ritual" as much as an act of self-preservation.

lol. BCBS (Bourbon County Brand Stout) is a 13% Imperial Stout that was aged in bourbon barrels for a year with vanilla beans. Only brewed once over a year ago. The Cantillon Foufoune is a Belgian lambic that's aged for 2 years before being aged with local hand stoned apricots and aged another 2 months before bottling. Rare and expensive. Intensely sour (gets more sour with age), fruity, funky, vinous, delicious.

Man up? Real men drink big burly beers. What screams man more than a giant, black 13% beer that spent time in bourbon barrels! Pounding bud is easy. Pounding a big stout separates the men from the boys.
