The homerism is strong within you. I don't always agree with the media but in this situation I definitely do. I think Fitzpatrick had his best game of the season against us. And to me that was a pretty good defensive performance for this year.

You are talking to people that after all those years still haven't realized that BB will let the opponents gain yards on the ground or via pass by design if it increases our overall chances to win a football game. Which makes all of those yardage stats even more useless than they already are.

It is simply mind numbing to me how so many people didn't realize what the gameplan against the Jets was and how well it worked. All they saw was Fitzpatrick and his completion percentage and yardage stats but failed to realize that most of that was by design. Stopping the run, leaving him the underneath checkdowns and daring him to beat them deep when he loses the patience of constantly checking down where he has shown that he is pretty error prone was the right way to go.

You can escape your true performance level as an athlete only for so long and Fitzpatrick did a good job with some impressive throws. But chances were that he would **** up sooner or later and that's what the defensive gameplan was built around.

If you want more of a Seahawks or Broncos defense that only plays one certain way, does that particularly well and wants the other team to show they can beat them then you need to go and cheer for a different team as long as BB is in charge here.

your kind of making the point that the Pats have an average defense. BB is a great coach and he is covering up for what at its core is an average defense. BB is certainly not acting like he has the third best offense. Going into the bye week BB talked about the D needing to get better and seemed to single out that side of the ball for needing improvement. Are you really saying BB thinks it is great to "let" opposing teams gain a lot of ground? Keeping Brady on the bench is his purposeful strategy? People on this board really seem to rate this defense far higher than BB himself does. I'd suggest he is coaching as if he does not trust his defense and is getting away with it because he is a good coach, they've played lousy opposing offenses and they have Brady.

Far from making a lot of mistakes Fitz had about his best game of the year. Most aggressive team? Really? So Bellichik wants the other team to posses the ball for long periods of time converting a lot of third downs while keeping the GOAT QB on the bench? When Belichick says they have to get better on third downs he's really lying because he doesn't really mind teams driving up and down the field?

Umm the defense had not allowed the other team to possess the ball for long periods of time converting a lot of 3rd firms leaving the GOAT QB on the bench.

Points allowed is the most important statistic. (As per belichick)

All I care about is the most important stat 9-2. If people want to pollute the board with worry about what this D might or might not do against "the good teams" then they have to live with the consequenses.

Everyone should be worried about the O and D performing in a playoff game no matter what the record or points or yards are. Its a playoff game and solid teams beat excellent teams all the time.

They have had a relatively easy schedule, they havent faced top 10 QB's all season

Honestly I don't want to be right, I hope they go all the way. I think they lack talent on the defensive side of the ball.

Good god we all know what has happened, but the question about the defense and 90% of the reason people read and post on this board is to try figure out and predict what will happen. Yes, everything matters but in what order? I liked how the D looked in holding Arizona to 21 points. But holding teams like the Jets and 49ers to 17 points while allowing their lousy QBs to both look good and have good statistical games is a poor indicator of how this defense will fare against a competent offense. If this truly were the 3rd best defense in the league and given the GOAT QB of all time is on this team, I'd fly to Vegas and lay heavy money on the Pats to win it all. I still think they have a good chance of raising the trophy at the end of the year. However, This defense is average. Probably good enough to not get blown out, but from how things look now, if the Pats win it will not be because of the defense, but because of TB12 and the offense. In terms of predicting how this defense will perform in the playoffs I'll take the defensive passer rating stat every day over ppg as a predictive stat against the teams that will end up in the playoffs.
