I don't see really it that way. What else are they going to spend the money on at this point in the season? There aren't many alternatives.
He's probably driving down the main drag in Phoenix swigging on a bottle of whiskey and throwing empties at the cops.
Here are some drunken Irsay tweets from March 2013. I guess he doesn't remember.

Did he make the trip to Denver?

Thanks. Sorry for the dumb question but I've been busy the last few days.Yes, he did. We don't know if he'll play, but Belichick said it would be valuable for Floyd to see how the Patriots operate on gameday while he's acclimating to the team.
Understand that. I didn't articulate my thought fully. That 1.3 m would carry to next season and could be used there. That's why you wouldn't simply want to waste any remaining cap space.
This is a long thread for someone who could easily be cut in a few days.
I'll buy their first round...Now, if we can get Jimmy Graham or Travis Kelce to go on a bender and fall asleep behind the wheel...
is there still a cap hit after he is cut? I wouldn't think so, I think the cap hit for dead money would be on the Cardinals, for the bonus and other upfront money. Guess maybe if the 1.3MM was fully guaranteed so the Pats had assumed that future liability, but I'd be surprised if that's the way it is. So I expect the Pats only shelled out cap money equal to whatever salary they pay him while he's on the roster. Also expect it will be a moot point, he won't be cut.It would shock me & be extremely dissapointing if he was cut after shelling out 1.3 M in cap money.

Not saying anything about expectations of significant contributions, was answering your statement that it's unthinkable Belichick would have him active on Sunday. And I will go farther than saying he may be active, it would not surprise me if Belichick has him on the field for at least a few snaps on Sunday. Floyd may not have anything to do beyond blocking or being a decoy, but I think it's quite possible Belichick will listen to Charlie Weis saying Floyd already knows 75% of the Patriots' offense and test Floyd on it. Best case scenario is Weis is right, Floyd takes advantage of the opportunity, and we see what he can do. Most likely case is, he gets to block a few times. But it seems to me that having him active isn't out of the question, no matter what Reiss and others might say.If you're saying that anything's possible, then I agree, but I'm not seeing the parellels between proper situational management with the intentional safety and expecting a WR to contribute who's been here for a day. Hopefully, I'm wrong and he catches a couple of TD passes on Sunday. That'd be sweet.
ok, I see his 2016 salary was fully guaranteed. Had not known that before. Thanks. The Pats assumed his remaining salary and would be on the hook unless he was claimed.
