One of my theories was that--despite the intrigue at the top--it was the Patriots that would dominate the way this draft unfolded. And, in a very real sense, they did:

* First, they sign Welker to a deal . . . that helps lead to the Doofins taking Ginn.
* That move causes Quinn to start free-falling . . . and end up in Cleveland.
* Then they plucked Meriweather away from the Eagles.
* Then they let SF mortgage their future by trading away their #1 for next year, and pick up a fourth for this year.
* Then they scare all of us Pats fans by trading their third-round pick, too.
* THEN they land Randy Moss. [So, essentially, the 49ers traded their fourth rounder to Oakland--and the Pats got Randy Moss for acting as the middleman. ]

Wow. What an interesting way to look at that. Randy Moss literally was a steal.:rocker:

*By picking Meriweather they caused the Eagles to trade their first round pick into next years draft.

And let Dallas select Anthony Spencer, who has the potential to terrorize McNabb.

Good analysis. It even gives a reason why the Doofins picked Ginn, which I could not figure out.

I was so upset when Quinn fell to them. The only thing they lacked over the last few years has been a decent QB. Damon Huard (6-1 with them) was the last good one they had, and that was seven years ago. I wasa ranting and yelling and pissing and moaning ... and then they picked Ginn. I was so happy, I almost cried.

I was upset again when the Jests traded up, believing they were going to dump Noodle Arm for a real QB, but they went with defense.

I don't wish bad on Ginn or Revis, I hope they do okay, but here's hoping Quinn becomes The Mighty Quinn, and the Doofins and Jests spend the next ten years regretting their choices.

Well for the Jets it wouldn't be the first time. Remember they passed on Dan Marino in favor of a tight end. :singing:

heheh.. So true.. I'd only make one adjustment to it..

Welker deal had a two fold effect: 1 the drafting of Ginn and the second, causing a delay in the move to get Trent Greene

The Chiefs front office has stated they believe (whether its true or not) because Welker fetched the dolphins a 2nd round pick the dolphins should ante up more for Greene.. A proven starting QB..

Another look,
Twig to Seattle for a first, giving us two. Trade one to 49ers for a first and and 4th. Trade the 4th for Moss and still have the first.

Net is, Twig for Moss and a first.

I liked this quote the most:

"That's quite a contrast from a year ago, when Brady's top targets were Reche Caldwell, Doug Gabriel, Jabar Gaffney and aging veteran Troy Brown. Now, Brady has two deep threats in Moss and Stallworth, a solid slot receiver in Welker and an outstanding tight end in Ben Watson.

Add in Kevin Faulk's ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, second-year running back Laurence Maroney's expected emergence, and one of the league's best offensive lines, and you have the potential for a lot of 30-point games from the New England offense. Opposing defenses against the Patriots feel a lot like the Washington Generals defending the Harlem Globetrotters."

The writer doesn't quite concede the superbowl to us yet but concedes how scary this New England offense is gonna look!

NE's picking of Meriweather was also partly the reason the Eagles snagged Stewart Bradley before NE's pick in the third. NE was ready to draft Stewart Bradley in the third round if he fell to them, but when the Eagles snagged him they decided to trade out of round one. It sucks to know that since I know BOR and myself liked Stewart for NE.

Dear Philly:

What do you know about what it takes to put together a Super Bowl team? Just curious.

Just to add more fuel to the fire, I heard on ESPN that Carolina was also ready to draft Meriweather at #25 with the Jets pick. Carolina then picked Beason. I don't know if Philly or Dallas was interested in him.

It's also comforting to know that two other FOs who have got excellent talent evaluation skills (yeah I know...kevin Kolb!) wanted the same guy we got. So much for those who felt he was a risky 1st round pick.

We may harp on the Boston sport writers here for there incompetence but Philly really is the home of the idiots. Kevin Kolb is causing a QB controversy? I don't know how much more ridiculous you can get. For some reason Philly fans are so ready to look past Andy Reid's idiotic game plans where he calls 80% pass plays and put the blame on Donovan McNabb. McNabb is a top 5 QB in the NFL and the people of Philly will never appreciate him until he gets ridden out of town and they are stuck with AJ Feely or some other mediocre back up.

It's funny that when McNabb goes down and Reid is forced to go to a more conventionally balanced offense that things work so well that even an aging Jeff Garcia be successful. It must be because Donovan sucks though, not because he was throwing 50 passes a game and now they are actually letting Westbrook run the ball.

One could not script an out and out "steal" any better.

When Randy Moss puts up 1,000 yd + numbers along with a dozen or so TD's after having undergone the special "Patriot Kool Aid attitude elixir" - I feel this deal goes down as one of the all time best engineered moves.

Absolutely agree, after all, the NFL, no, the WORLD DOES revolve around the New England Awesomes!

Not ridiculous at all. Have you ever seen a Philly game? When you use a second round draft pick, you are not taking a flyer on a developmental player, you are taking someone you expect to contribute, and soon. You can only sign the guy for four years. Hopefully he will play three of those, two as an absolute minimum. Where does that leave Donovan?

Plus, if the guy looks good at all, half the Philly fans will be yelling for him.

How is that ridiculous?

I have watched more than a few Eagles games, and I really don't think McNabb gets enough credit. For some reason when things go wrong no one blames Reid's game planning which has been for the most part one dimensional and predictable. I think that is ridiculous. I think replacing McNabb is a poor use of a second round pick as they have much bigger holes to fill. If they get rid of McNabb without giving him a chance to play in a balanced offense then they are being foolish. Reid should go before McNabb as far as I'm concerned.

I agree with regard to McNabb and Reid. Reid constructs lousy game plans, and does not give McNabb either the wide receiver tools or the running backs to get the job done. I hope McNabb gets to go to a team that appreciates him and builds a balanced offense that showcases his talent.
