Pats can't be considered better than Colts until...

Last years wins do nothing for them this year.

Another perspective: How big was the gap between the teams last season? Not very. Obvioulsy the Pats have improved.
Its not about what the 06 teams did. They could be used as a gauge to where the teams were then, but are irrlelevant to what will happen this year. The Colts did not start the season with any advantage, everyone started 0-0.

The Colts were the best team in 2006. That means nothing in 2007.

Last years wins do nothing for them this year? What kind of baloney is that. If that was the case, then all of the myths about the Colts Offense would still exists, being "soft" "Not being able to win outside of the dome, in the elements" "Manning and Dungy can't win the big one" I don't know about your team, but the postseason defined the team that is playing this year. The experience, the defensive play that is still carrying over. All of that still matters this year, even though it is a new season the foundation that was set last year matters

I agree 100%, they have to beat them to be considered better than them. They beat us three strait times, until we return the favor, they are the better team.

That said, I hope they blow them off the field November 4th so we can get rid of all the ******* Colts trolls who have made this forum their home away from home.

You won the Super Bowl last year, we all got the memo.

The myths or them being eliminated do nothing for them either. (By the way, I don't remember them winning 'in the elements').
As for the rest, blah, blah, blah.
It may make you feel better, but nothing that happened last year impacts this year. The games don't count, the players aren't even the same.

Go ask the Chargers.

Pats beat Colts. We've lost, what, three straight games to Indy? Until we beat them, they're number one. All these rankings suggesting otherwise are crap. JMHO.

I could't agree more

So your "definition" of whose better is from 2006 thru 2007?

My definition is who's best right now. That is clearly New England.

Hey, if I were you, I would not have watched the SB either. But it was a monsoon. First time in SB history.

Thread is lame anyway. Consider yourselves better, I don't truely give a ****.

Yeah... sure... the fact that you've been posting in here constantly all season long about your team demonstrates how much you "don't give a ****." Right. OK

The Colts weren't the better team last year. Their win in the AFCCG was one of the biggest sports flukes in the last 20 years.

This year they are (again) the second best team in football. In a few weeks, that will be made clear to anyone who still doesn't get it.

The argument that the Colts should be #1 because they won the championship is flawed. What if the Colts lost Manning, Addai, Harrison, Freeney, Sanders and Wayne prior to the season? (Note: I know this wouldn't happen.) Most likely, you wouldn't have the Colts as the top team going into week 1.

Power rankings are dumb.

Are you telling me you a lurker on that 'other board'?

A lurker? No, there was a link posted here that linked me up with the indystar forum. I must say out of all the delusional colts fans you take the cake. That entire board is totally obsessed with all things patriots. Do you know anything about football?

Seems to me you spend all day projecting your insecurities through the internet. Ha ha.

Didn't they beat us in New England during the regular season? and in the playoffs when it counted? and the year before that at home? 3 losses in a row, two at home. We are chasing them.

Uh, lightpost? Yeah, uh, let me be a little more clear. I don't give a crap who says who is better, in terms of power rankings. I don't care if we are 1,2,3 or 10 in Priscoes, Scheins, Sagarin's, Fox, ESPN, yadda yadda. I really don't. Do I care about the team, the rivalry, absolutely. You just won't see me get bent outta shape over some lousy polls.

i agree in a way.

anyway it looks like 'THE GAME' of the regular season; no doubt

i'm looking forward for the games against DAL and IND

The Colts should remain and are number 1 for several reasons

a) They are the defending champs

b) They are the defending champs and undefeated

c) They have beaten the Patriots 3 times in a row and have won a Superbowl since the last time the Pats have beaten them. The Pats are trying to catch up to the Colts, NOT the other way around. They have to prove they can beat them again

Reasons I'd be okay with the Pats being ranked ahead of the Colts

a) The Colts start losing games up to Nov 4th and the Pats keep winning

b) The Pats beat the Colts Nov 4th

OK, so what happened when Indy came to town for (a) the AFC Championship in 2004 or (b) the divisional in 2005? The Pats had beaten Indy at least (a) the last 3 games and (b) the last 5 games prior. Nonetheless, everyone outside Foxboro (particularly Colts trolls on this board) had decided that the Colts were definitely the better team based on a couple of blowout wins in prior playoff games, against relatively weaker teams.

So now the Pats are coming off four consecutive blow-out wins vs relatively weak opponents, whereas the Colts have been challenged in two of their games. Any Colt fan coming on this board and saying we don't have the right to declare ourselves the best team is just a plain hypocrite.

Go ahead, declare it. Here's how I see it,

The Colts have a greater chance of getting beat than the Patriots do, here's why:

* I realize you all look down on the AFC South, but realize TN and Tex have improved over last season. Jax is still tough on D and tough at home. The South, top to bottom, offers better competition for the Colts than does the East for the Pats

* Rush Defense. We have improved, and I think we will continue to do so. However, we won't be in the 65-85YPG Rush D. average. This is going to present losing situations for the Colts, moreso than the Pats. If we can bend (give up 3), and not break (give up 7), then I think we can roll to 12-14 wins.

* The way that the Pats are playing, one side of the ball can have a bad day, and the other side can make up for it. I think this situation is possible for the Colts as well, but if the O has a poor day, it MIGHT be difficult for the D to step up for 4 solid quarters.

All that said, I think our Take aways, and Margin will continue to be strong, and should help temper som defensive lapses.

So, that's my two cents. Call yourselves better, no problem. Each team still has to show up and perform on the 4th.
