As usual Lombardi nailed it when he said this was all about money. There are only 2 reasons to bring an agent to a meeting like that: demanding a trade or something contract related.

If things happen I would keep an eye on the exact contract structure to see the most likely point in time that BB will trade Gronk. Next summer would bring most in return but maybe they want to sync it up with Bradys end after 2019.

Lucky is one way to think of it. I think it's more about him having some leverage and choosing to use it. The team is welcome to keep him where he is money wise, and risk him thinking it's not worth it and retire, or become disgruntled in general. If he were the 53rd guy on the roster, they'd be telling him to pound sand.

The reverse could be seen in the Amendola situation. Danny didn't have to take a pay cut three straight years. No one held a gun to his head. In the end, he chose to do so, rather than risk being cut and having to move. This last time, his priorities were different, and he chose differently.

I don't see either of these scenarios as necessarily antagonistic. There's negotiations taking place, and both sides have to see some value in redoing these deals, or they wouldn't be getting done.

Certainly this past seasons results would have the team inclined to go the incentive route again while Gronk will be looking for guaranteed cash.

Brady is firmly in Gronk camp. What TB wants, TB gets and he wants Gonk.Add that RG is also a TB12 patron.

It’ll be interesting to see if this is the year where they rip up the contract and start over, or whether it’s going to be another one year temporary solution. It would appear that neither side wants to go through this again a year from now, but upfront money also appears to be what got them into this disagreement in the first place.

I wouldn't be surprised to see both an increase in the guaranteed amount and in the incentives.

Gronk could walk away from the game tomorrow and do big time wrestling. The pay is not bad and its way safer than the NFL. A movie career is not that far fetched. I can picture Gronk with his very own reality TV show someday.

Seriously? The highest non-QB pacts are going to guys like elite DEs and Antonio Brown. Gronk wouldn’t even make what Le’Veon Bell is as a RB. Once Aaron Donald gets paid, all of those guys are going to be pushing the 15-17-20m dollar market. No one’s giving that injury riddled dude close to 20m dollars a year, even as great as he is.

I do agree with you that he should be paid as the top TE (12m), and that if he ever hit free agency some team would likely bump that up another million a year or so (13) paying him as a hybrid TE/WR. Absolute crazy money for Gronk would top out around 13.5–14m a year.

I definitely think Gronk is more of a game changer than a 5'10" WR. You don't think some teams do too?

According to Forbes, one of the premier wrestlers (Triple H) made 2.8m dollars last year, and Gronk certainly wouldn’t be on that level, at least to start. That’s likely going to be somewhere between 20-25 percent of what he’ll make in the NFL, this season.

I’m not sure where the notion of it being “way safer” comes from either, since he’d be getting constant direct contact to his 3x surgically repaired back—without the benefit of any pads.

Movies and TV are a possibility, but he’s not going to be Mark Wahlberg making 20m a movie, either. He’s going to have some small bit roles in the stoner flicks. It’s doubtful that he’d even get action movies for awhile. Either way, he’s certainly free to do whatever he wants for almost 6 full months out of the year, aside from a contractual obligation to attend a couple of weekend camps.
