Pats acquire OL Jermaine Eluemunor from Ravens

WORKING ON OL BACKUPS

We've added two, and still have Froholdt and Croston.
I'd keep them all, presuming that the new new players aren't awful over the next 10 days.

Scar Academy is in session, including a couple of PS offensive linemen and eventually Cajuste.

There are a handful of teams that are as weak in OL depth as the Pats (or weaker). They may be trying to grab the best of the likely cuts before the cuts, because there won't be much left after the teams ahead of them grab there guys off of waivers.
So why not just trade a (conditional!) 7th-rounder for Cunningham instead of a 6th-rounder, when a 7th is still better than nothing? This feels that Bill paid a buck for 3 quarters.

For those who don’t Habla espanol, eluemanor is spanish for , the uemanor

Yeah that's about right. Though I'm wondering who the back up C would be.

My money is on Froholdt

2018 (SENIOR): Started all 12 games for the Razorbacks in his final season on the Hill … Earned AP All-SEC Second Team accolades … Named CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District honoree … Twice selected to the Pro Football Focus SEC Team of the Week after performances against Vanderbilt (Oct. 27) and LSU (Nov. 10) … Totaled 815 snaps, 440 in pass protection, beginning the season at the center position, moving to the left guard spot before rounding out the year back at C due to a teammate injury

Hjalte Froholdt

Looks like any edge Croston had to make the team with his ability to work in at guard in addition to tackle might be axed after adding Eluemunor and already having Froholdt. Clearly they don’t feel too strongly about Croston as a whole.

Apparently Eluemanor played mostly RT in his last year at A&M, so could be some versatility with him as well.

Very short turnaround, but hopefully can put these two additions through the Scar Machine and have something positive come out on the other end.

I hear this dude's name and for some reason all i can think about is Lord of the Rings

Really don't see the upgrade.

How on earth would you, or any of us really know? They study film and track these guys for years, and I think that’s one of their greatest strengths, as they consistently pull players out of other rosters and get quality play out of them. They would probably rather stick with what they know, but if they see guys they like being dangled then go for it. Some hit, some don’t, but you don’t sit pat if you believe you can upgrade.

It seems strange to trade for two O-lineman and neither has any experience at center.

Not if they believe they already have Andrews replacement.

No way, too much work to do, technique-wise, never mind mastering the verbiage. If Karras can't pull it together or if he goes down, Thuney will move to center.
Weakening the G position does not make sense to me.

Rather have 2 All-Pro caliber guards and a functional C than functional G, C and just 1 all-pro G

We've got two pages into a discussion of the O-line roster and no one has mentioned Yodny Cajuste. The Pats picked him in the 3rd round and must have known he was recovering from surgery. Surely he's in their plans somewhere.

He's almost certainly going to start the season on NFI, which means he won't be able to join the team until Week 7 at the earliest.

One thing to note: unlike the Cards trade, the Ravens' tweet specifically notes that it is "pending the passing of a physical," which suggests he might not.

I thought this was a condition of all trades.

It makes sense if you think center is the more important position.

Captain, do you really think the Patriots didn't try to pay less? Or perhaps you imagine that they started by offering a 5th but then Arizona said "no no, a 6th will do, I insist!"??

This is a tackle-thirsty league, and Cunningham is a swing tackle with some starting experience on a cheap contract through 2021. IOW a tradable commodity. I assume that another team offered a 7th and NE--expected to be picking at the end of the round--had to go up to a 6th.

Since these trades are late... Guaranteed to make the team?

I don't know about guarantees, but giving up a 6th for a guy you'll keep for about 4 days isn't something we see a whole lot of, so I'm going with Cunningham being pretty much a lock. Of course, his competition is a big part of the "why" on that one. The other guy is the one I'm waiting to see the compensation on, but he's in that same position where the alternative backups don't look ready for prime time.

I think either Thuney or Mason played some snaps at center in camp or in a preseason game maybe 2 years ago, right?
