They are actually top 2 in points allowed over the 2nd half of the season. The trend is positive for the defense.

Patriots had a solid season. They were also 4-0 against playoff teams.

No run defense stats, don’t be misleading. If we can dictate an opponents offense by playing with a lead we are okay but if they are able to rip time away from TB we are in trouble.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, exhibit one on why stats without context are as useless as tits on a bull.

These are scoring numbers and wins and losses not sure what other context you are looking for?

I would say yards could be misleading without scoring contexts. Or other similar things but scoring and holding the other team from scoring is the name of the game.

Yes. To admit that this isn’t the 4th best offense and the 7th best defense would be to admit an inconvenient truth. It doesn’t surprise me that you want to hold on to that belief. Every season, we have this conversation. Stats without context are absolutely misleading. You learn that in Intro to Stats. It’s literally one of the first things any professor will tell you. Case and point from a recent example - how did the 5th best defense do in the Super Bowl last year? Furthermore, tell me what they did, from a schematic standpoint, to sure up the run defense? Please be specific.

Which has nothing to do with the fact that this is a fantastic example of stats without context.

Statistics don't tell the story. They sure didn't last year when they coached great then got exposed completely on D in the SB. Believe your own eyes. I think some teams that were ripping us up the gut stopped and passed because they were afraid Brady would kill them if they didn't get ahead with quick offense. And Brady's receivers aren't up to snuff yet by a longshot.

I think, personnel wise, they can improve with 2 weeks and coaching, but both units need to play better, defensive front and WR rhythm, or they get bounced somewhere.

I really liked how they responded the last two weeks after they got shredded on the ground in Pittsburgh. However, like last year, the playoffs will determine how good they really are.

For starters they activated more beef on the game day roster in Shelton and Kamalu the past 2 games and they were better.
My bad I just assumed the context of scoring was pretty clear that's how you actually win by out scoring the other guys.

I feel like the defensive stats are misleading (though not as much as in 2011, more like 2016). It's a decent defense overall, but certainly not great. The offense isn't as strong as in years past to bail it out. And yet somehow, this will probably be the year we finally get our first Super Bowl blowout win.
