A lot of the early season is going to depend on how quickly Strange, Onwenu, and Anderson get up to speed and gel after missing time. Not really worried about any of them individually, but OL takes some continuity to really feel the groove, so hopefully two weeks is enough to get them to a reasonable shape. I think a line of Brown-Strange-Andrews-Onwenu-Anderson, when all are healthy and where they should be, is good enough to do what they want to do on offense.

I think at this point Kraft should feel confident in the direction of the organization. Obviously we want the Pats to make the postseason, but if they end up missing it due to a slate of tough opponents, I doubt Kraft is going to say "you didn't make the playoffs again, you're out Bill!" The preseason has shown a coaching staff that is much more stable and professional, and I think Kraft should feel confident that they're on a good path even if this specific season might be tough. Plus, he knows Bill probably isn't gonna stick around more than another few years at most before wanting to hang them up, and there's no guarantee that the next HC will be better or even as good. It makes sense to try to give the Bill-BOB-Mayo coaching nucleus a couple of years at the least and re-evaluate.

Still haven’t announced captains?

I can't remember where I saw it, but someone said last year they announced them on Sept. 7, which was four days before their season opener. I'm guessing we'll get them tomorrow alongside the first official injury report.

There are teams that move very quickly to fire HQs and teams that give them a lot of leeway, such as the Steelers and Ravens. I think Kraft envisions the Pats in that company. But who knows?

yea thats the key for me is just seeing them on a promising upward trajectory. Last year was brutally frustrating, but im optimistic this year that they've righted the ship and brought in a competent, respected OC that can take advantage of all of Mac's strengths that involve operating an offense at higher than a 5th grade level

Defense seems to be even better in terms of talent, the only question mark really is at FS where we will miss McCourty's consistency and leadership, but overall our secondary is still an elite group. Adding White to an already ferocious pass rush is just icing on the cake, and a joker hybrid type in Mapu

and it looks like they may have hit on 2 legit WRs late in the draft... lots to feel positive about!

Is Cole Strange back practicing??

That^ is huge our WR's should be able to run more than a Five yard out with Mount Brown and Calvin Anderson manning the outsides.
I honestly didn't know much about Anderson was looking him up. The most impressive thing I read is that in 4,212 snaps he has allowed two sacks and has not been called for a penalty. That's impressive.

But he has never been a full time starter for 16 games. I do wonder if folks on here are expecting to much from him? Seems the hype doesn't really match the reality of what he has been as a player. Which is a spot starter with a couple of stretch starts.

There's a lot of unknown there with him, for sure. I think for me, IMO, an OL can function really well if you have four good starters and your fifth guy is decent and consistent. You can scheme a line around one guy who's not ideal, it's when you start replacing two or three guys that you start to see some fatal flaws. So again, assuming Brown-Strange-Andrews-Onwenu are healthy, I think Anderson can be good there. Depth will depend on how quickly the rookies acclimate.

I think that's why they have Sow, Lowe and Wheatley. They're planning for when Anderson goes down.
