N'Keal Harry and Anfernee Jennings should pay attention to this. Maybe Winovich, too, although he seems to have gotten the message.
Whats wrong with Jennings?

i agree. Jones is a learn by doing type player. He is smart and needs to get on the field to learn and fix mistakes. He rarely makes the same mistake twice and processes info faster than any rookie i have seen in a while
It seems Jones is an uber-fast learner and adapter which is a huge reason why he'll be starting this fall.

We will get a better idea where Mac is at right now when he faces the Giants starting defense not the Eagles scrubs or the WFT backups. Lawrence in comparison was playing against the Saints 1's last night.

My expectations are not that high quite yet but I really like how cerebral he seems to be.

Or every time a Pats WR makes the catch, we say, "That was a Mac-culate reception."

<groan>
There's no emoji for this...maybe we need an Al Bundy version of the Goodell clown emoji....@ian

He will be the first to tell you that he is still messing up out there
So is Cam
grasping the system is a work in progress.
Same for Cam
His practices ...have been inconsistent.
Same for Cam
sitting and learning
Learning what NOT to do? I think he will screw up a little whenever he gets the chance, but then will learn. I remember Aikman and Elway both lining up behind guards for snaps, they were so confused as rookies.

Cam would screw up too, and not learn.

So go ahead and get the growing pains behind you.

What does he learn sitting?
To me, the main benefit of sitting the rookie is so he can steadily build up to the nfl level through practice, film review, going in to less competitive game situations, etc. This allows them to not be thrown into the fire prematurely and destroyed mentally. With that said, I think you're absolutely right in this situation. We have the right rookie, the right coaching staff, and the right supporting cast for Mac to perform and develop well on the field. If the competition is close, which it is, the last reason BB rolls with Cam to start the season is because he sees some other value in the rookie holding the clipboard for a few games that I am unaware of. And, as always, I defer to BB.

So Fields will start week 1. Wilson will start week 1. Lawrence will start week 1. All this is ok, but Jones needs a half season of bench warming before he is ready? If the Pats #1a/2 was Hoyer instead of Cam would we be even having this conversation?

Get your fecking vaccine before I attend the week 4 game!! LoL

I think most fans under appreciate Slater. What he brings to the team is more than excellent ST play. He never says anything stupid, he seems to have the respect of his teammates, he’s clearly the guy who’ll come out to talk to the media and create the message… I remember fans being up n arms about drafting a STer, but I can’t think of many 5th round picks making as many ProBowls as he.

In fact, I think ST is undervalued as well. Maybe BB is TOO obsessed with them, but the average fan doesn’t put enough importance on the yards a ST unit affects.

Yeah, I got Labor Day.
At this point it's entirely possible.
Despite being one of Mac's biggest backers I've definitely been in the camp of "don't rush him too soon", and "it won't hurt him if he starts mid season". I figured that there was zero chance that Mac started the first game, or even early in the season unless Cam is injured. I was betting on more like mid-season, or even later if Cam played decent.

However, reasonable people change opinions according to facts and as facts change. I can't imagine that the team is too happy about this COVID testing related absence by Cam, BB hasn't said too much but it doesn't seem like the type of thing that BB would be very patient with. If he has suspended players for being a few minutes late to meetings because of snow or traffic, how is he going to feel about a supposed leader missing several days of practice because of what can be most charitably characterized as extreme sloppiness (certainly beyond being late for a team meeting) and could easily be interpreted as putting your personal (anti-vax) views above the good of the team.

That changes everything for me, now I have no idea when the change will be. Maybe is WILL be Labor Day.
