Lol @Uptown ...I would also think with the emergence of Cajuste recently, that Marcus Martin will be next to go, then followed by Sherman.

Marcus Martin is a C/G, so the emergence of Cachoo as the leading Swing Tackle candidate shouldn't really concern him...

Billy (we could've had Trey Smith) Sherman, OTOH, might be in more trouble than Martin, though I never considered him a viable Swing Tackle candidate anyway because I don't believe that he will ever become stout enough to make a living in the NFL on the Right side... Dude's a LG/LT with a possible transition to Center...

After RJ Prince, the next OL to be sh!t-canned should be Alex Redmond.

Exactly. And I do not see how it helps Jones to sit.
No one has really given me a valid reason that it is better for him to not play football than to play football.
Exactly this.

I know this makes Mac look good, but this really feels like a made up stat.
Its also meaningless.

Reasons for having a good%
(1) Higher % of safe short throws
(2) WRs running correct route
(3) WRs not sucking in general
(4) Being afraid to take risks even in the pre-season, when you should take more risks to learn your limits

If we had the version of Alex Smith the Chiefs had when they sat Mahomes for a year, most people around here, despite Mac looking great, would be okay with Smith starting.

The problem is that we have the corpse of Cam Newton. He is a QB that does not fit our system and whose best attributes are not as big an advantage as they used to be. Newton COULD very well do WORSE than a rookie Jones.

Question is:

- How much importance do we put on THIS YEAR versus the long-term development of Mac Jones.

The answer to this question might influence who you start... unless you think the best for both Mac AND the team is to start him ASAP. Which could very well be the case. We know that the Pats are at least considering it. Smarter people than me will make that decision and given the sustained success we have had, I am inclined to trust them.
Good post.

What does he learn sitting?
i agree. Jones is a learn by doing type player. He is smart and needs to get on the field to learn and fix mistakes. He rarely makes the same mistake twice and processes info faster than any rookie i have seen in a while
