Patriots Trade for Michael Bennett

No one was predicting any great things for Flowers after HIS first year. It took 2.5 full years of development before we started to see the Trey Flowers who was going to be the top pass rusher available in FA.

I understand the progression you are referring, but many were looking at Flowers his second year, similar to Wynn this year. Flowers was a beast in preseason until he got hurt and while he wasn't the high pick like Wynn, expectations were he would be a large piece of the future.

Also 2.5 years development? I know every year he got better, but in 2016 playoffs he was a beast.

I saw Flowers in a video saying this is Number Six but "WE" want number seven. Anything can happen so as of now it's nice to think of Flowers and Bennett lining up for us on D this season.

There are still some in-house options such as Deatrich Wise, Derek Rivers, Kenoa Davis, and etc...those guys have now had 2 years in our system and might still take a step forward.
We can only HOPE on these guys. Bennett is likely to give us pass rush productivity that we can COUNT on.

BTW- I think Wise has already proven that he is a solid DE in the league. Nothing special or dynamic in any way, but a good pro. Rivers was a binky of mine when he was drafted but has seen his first 2 years with the team, essentially lost due to injuries. He COULD be a big surprise come this year....or he could just flame out and become nothing more than a back up/STer who gets cut after his rookie contract ends. But he's certainly someone to watch.

BTW- one of Flowers' primary attributes was that he was able to be used all over the DL. Bennett was well known to be able to do that as well.

BTW- His comments about Schianno should be tempered a bit. It seems they came back in 2012, so I assume both men have matured since then. There won't be any problems, not that that will stop the talking heads from making it a big deal.

I think he comes back, and yea because he said that imo just sounds like he's not going anywhere.

Lets keep this defensive thing that fell out the sky going.

$7m is going to impact something.
I'm guess the basic concept of this trade was to get similar production at about half the cost (assuming Flowers is gone...and I DO think he's gone)

The downside is that you are likely only going to be able to count of this kind of production for a year. In the mean time it gives you a year to develop the true replacement for Flowers from you current and future assets. Like I said it takes time to develop competent pass rushers from players where the Pats pick.'

BTW - I though this move was pretty predictable. Houston was going to be too expensive. Wake was even older than Bennett and is a pretty one dimensional player. Bennett isn't cheap, but his ability to move up and down the line was important.

I don't care what any of you guys say. If you think Greg comes in and throws BB defense thats in place aside you are drunk or high...

I honestly don't want martellus or dola back. We need to get younger at those positions.
Let Brady's gang get back together.
You can have Gronk and Bennett then draft a Stenberger or another tight end later.
Martellus is a beast and would be so hyped and motivated to play with his brother.
You'd be crazy not to want a season of that.
Plenty of time to get younger on the receivers when Tom hangs it up.
We need more than 1 receiver or tight ends anyway.

Reading a little about the Bennett/Schiano relationship worries me a little. Hope those two can work together. Not sure if Bennett has matured or Schiano has softened. Maybe BB can be the soft center between two hard cookies.
