Well hmmm, it does sort of present a conundrum if Hunter is still on the board at 4. Do you take another blue chip WR, do the boring thing and take Campbell, or trade down. Being a typical rah-rah fan, I say take Hunter, but maybe the wise thing to do would be to trade down--we should be able to get a boatload of draft capital for Hunter.

At this point in his career Diggs isn't a guy that makes you pass up a blue chip.

If Hunter is still there at 4 you run — RUN!!! — to the podium to announce him as your pick. Whichever one of him or Carter is a must. Short of that, I’d say take Campbell right there unless they can get an extra pick for moving down a few spots.

Awesome.
Not a bad deal in this market.
There was not a parade of receivers marching into Foxboro. Definitely a top 20 receiver which is an enormous upgrade.
Impressive offseason. The team got a lot better.
And still have the #4 pick in the draft.

It is 23 million average
26 is guaranteed.

I’m guessing the year 3 salary is probably close to 30 mill.
We get 2 years for 40 spread over 3 with the 3rd being 9 mill dead money.
I’m guessing 12 mill cap hit this year and under 20 next.

Could be a lot of incentives in that 69 mill too.

If he is healthy, this is a phenomenal signing. I trust the Patriots MD's to have successfully determined his health.

Yeah, the one thing this might change for me draft wise is I probably wouldn’t force anything in that next tier of wr’s tet/golden/egbuka/etc. If hunter’s not there you can just go heavy on trenches with the first few picks , especially if you do find a trade down partner.

But im not passing up on a chance at hunter

What does ready mean? Source?

ACLs take a year to recover 100% from.

Ligamentization is when the ACL graft becomes a ligament like a natural ACL and by the 6 month point is considered "an actual ligament". The 6 month mark is also when people are normally cleared for their specific sports drills and by 8-9 months post op can return to contact sports because the ACL graft is about equal strength to the original ACL.

I imagine by them saying he will be ready, they mean he can get on the field and run routes. He had surgery in November I think.

Good, now draft a receiver and the WR room will be good to go for the season.
Unless that WR is Travis Hunter, I think they are done.

We have to see how all this goes: Stefon Diggs, Demario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Kendrick Bourne, J'Lynn Polk, J Baker.

7 WRs, need to cut 1 or 2.

Unless the front office is already relatively sure that Polk and Baker will never amount to anything, they are at their fill of WRs. Unless you grab Travis Hunter, then maybe you can let Bourne go as well.

But Diggs, Douglas, Hollins, Boutte are going to be on this team.

If you add Hunter, then Bourne, Polk and Baker fight for the 6th spot, if there is a 6th spot.

So what other WR were they going to spend it on?

A WR who won't constantly be in his young QB's ear telling him how open he is on every single play would be a nice start... Tyler Lockett from the same draft class as Diggs would've been my first choice, especially if they were going for that same body type anyway.

Unfortunately, with the Giants signing Russell Wilson, we will miss out on Hunter. Unless we trade up. Would love to see Hunter and Diggs together though.
Russell Wilson is old though. If they draft a QB, they will have the luxury of developing him instead of throwing him to the wolves.

Not going to lie, the volatility of Diggs in a receiver room that was already full of dipshits last year does scare me a bit.

Don't forget the dipshit coach they now have in that room too

Now he ends his career with us and can break in a young WR like Isiah Bond since Hunter is not falling.
If he does fall I will drive Polk to the airport.

Hard to say if Hunter will fall. I suppose a lot depends on his pro day. I am sure that Prime Time is prepping him on how to run a good 40 so I expect something in the 4.3 range or even 4.29....in which case the there will be no fall to 4. If he run in the 4.4 range, then maybe he falls. These timings are sort of ridiculous; all you need to know about his speed can be seen on his tape.

Lockett is cooked. The Diggs stuff is so overblown. Josh Allen’s ego wanted and Diggs ***** slapped him. No other history of incidents with him.

26 million is not too egregious, they needed someone. If they really wanted to put their foot on the gas they could sign Amari Cooper as well.

Sign a tackle, the only guys left will also be reasonably priced.

Improved, yes; but that's damning with faint praise...

I found too many of the coaching hires were hit or miss for my liking: I feel we regressed at Tight Ends, and going from The Worst WRs coaches in the league, to a loyal buddy of the HC who has NEVER coached the position before and has a reputation of being quite the **** Head, is NOT the direction I would've gone... I also wish we didn't have another first-time Defensive Co-ordinator... And don't forget, the same nepo-clowns from last year (and the year before that, and the year before that...) are Still upstairs this Entire offseason too.

As for the personnel itself, on offense the only signing that has directly impacted a known position of need with a contract that reflected the need as well as the condition of the player filling it has been Morgan Moses at Right Tackle. Schweitzer & Bradberry are just More of the Same at the C/G positions; and Left Tackle? Absolutely ****ing NOTHING. 3rd-Down Back? More Nothing. WR until Steph infection Diggs? Even More Nothing (The Dirty Mack Hollins does NOT count).
For the defense, while we've found our Matt Judon replacement - maybe, we hope - I still don't understand what good having a Ridiculously Expensive pass-rushing 3-Tech DT is when we are Absolute Shyte at stopping the run and can't score Nearly Enough to take the leads that would provide opportunities for William$ to do what he does best anyway... And the other two positions on defense to address - Outside CB #2 and Free Safety - were "answered" by throwing away cash - most Especially and Egregiously toward the CB - at two unreliable, injury-prone and Declining players... For different reasons, All Three of those signings made No ****ing Sense to me for what we needed then, and in some cases - Run-Stopping DT, starting-caliber Free Safety (because I consider Peppers a better Strong Safety at this stage of his career) - still need now.

Unless this up-coming draft proves otherwise - and I have no reason whatsoever to believe that it will - then we're still the 3rd-best team in a 4-team division, 10th-best in the conference, tops.
I'm happy for you.
Or sorry that happened.

This might be the safest approach. We do need more upgrades but we also have 4 very young wr’s on the team already. By 2026 we’ll have a better idea and easier time moving on from some of them, that would be a better time imo to draft another wr. Plus By the sounds of it this years draft is a weaker group of wr’s, better group of de/dt/hb, thats where i hope we go with the higher picks along with taking our LT. Hunter of course is the exception here.

For the older crowd he is to The NEP as Andrew Toney was to the early 80s Celtics.
Holy cow, an Andrew Toney reference. Those matchups were brutal. People seem to forget that the Celtics had to play an NBA championship team before getting to the NBA championship. That 7 game 81 series decided by an entirely of 5 points is regarded as the best series of all time. That was a crazy foot injury that cut Toney’s career short.
