From what I heard years ago from Mike Lombardi was that BB didn't like dealing with the Browns organization because of how unorganized and dysfunctional they were. There wasn't one point of contact. I think the Browns said they would've given up a 1st round pick for damage control for botching the potential trade.

It's known that BB and Shanahan have a good relationship and made the deal happen quick so the Pats could move on. However, John Lynch has said he was surprised BB only wanted a 2nd round pick and was prepared to give up more. I don't think he meant 1st round pick, but extra picks thrown in.
It feels like BB was pissed and just was going to take any old deal. He could have bargained for more but didn't. I don't see how you can let your feelings get the best of you when you could have definitely had a bidding war and with patience extracted maximum resources for Jimmy G. He was a hot QB prospect at the time.

I agree with most of this. The Diggs thing is fine in its way, but giving Drake someone to throw to, so to say, contributes very little (maybe some mentorship) to the rebuild if you assume, as I do, that we have at least two more years to go before we are genuinely competitive (beyond delusional "we're still not mathematically eliminated" nonsense). I think it's mainly a sop to impatient fanboys, a shiny object for those who need such diversion.

I disagree. The wide receiver room was an absolute mess. Diggs brings experience and #1 swagger. The young guys can learn from him how to be professionals. KB was a bit player, a WR2 or WR3 at best before joining the Patriots, he was never going to be the leader in that WR room and spent much of it in Patricia's doghouse.

Drake Maye can also benefit from having a reliable target like Diggs to throw to. None of the guys on the team inspire confidence. Polk, Boutte, Douglas, KB, those are the weapons Maye is supposed to rely on?

As far as OLINE of course many of us wanted the Patriots to go hard after a free agent LT but they didn't. So that means the draft.

Doesn't matter if you think Drake won't hit his 'prime' until 3 years from now. He can't throw to 4 guys off the street from Dorchester. That's gonna set back his development. TB12 used to be able to pull it off but he was at his prime back then and he usually had at least one dependable outlet whether it was a Brown, a Welker, an Edelman, or a Gronk.
