Player Signing Patriots Sign WR Stefon Diggs

It will be if we don't get from him what we need to get from somebody being paid what's he's gonna be paid this year... The $26M is his to keep, no matter how underwhelmingly he performs. In fact, he now has no incentive to do Anything in 2025; not when 2026 becomes yet another contract year...

So what other WR were they going to spend it on?

I was watching some guy named Boorish who claimed that they had to use Polk like Jacobi and AVP didn’t do that. It’s a pretty valid point, though my initial reaction was “given that offense, how could anyone tell?”
Yeah, Polk compares very well to Meyers. I'm hopeful being with McDaniels will maximize his talent.

He was used as an X and to stretch the field early last year and that's not his game. By the time we started using him in things he was comfortable with, I think his confidence was shot. Hopefully the new staff gets him going.

Vrabel & Josh aren't committed to any of our receivers. There's just the 2 new signings Diggs & Hollins, and we should expect a draftee in the first 3 rounds. Douglas probably has the inside track as slot receiver, and we like Boutte, so that leaves 1 spot.

This would take away a little of the sting if we miss out on hunter too
Well hmmm, it does sort of present a conundrum if Hunter is still on the board at 4. Do you take another blue chip WR, do the boring thing and take Campbell, or trade down. Being a typical rah-rah fan, I say take Hunter, but maybe the wise thing to do would be to trade down--we should be able to get a boatload of draft capital for Hunter.

I think Boutte was a solid WR for the Pats last year, he became a trusted target for Maye, including some long passes. He’s a really good route runner, had a very nice year 2 jump. Diggs, Douglas and Hollins are probably locks. I can see Boutte, Polk and a draft pick or 2 making the roster. I feel Bourne will be cut.

I still worry about the attitude. Even with the caveats of (1) all good WRs want the ball and (2) he plays hard. I accept that SD is very talented and that, when right, he’s the type of guy who’ll make big plays.

Maye is a young qb. My fear is that a WR who’s already been w two talented QBs can have a less tumultuous stint in NE. But I’m not putting money on it.

I feel pretty confident that Vrabel will deal with BS from Diggs (or any player on the roster) directly and swiftly.

I kind of wonder if this means Bourne is on the way out. He operates in the same part of the field as Diggs, Polk, and Douglas. Baker and Boutte at least bring some downfield ability.

Don't forget Hollins, either.

Hollins and Diggs, with Douglas are guaranteed. Probably 3 spots left for Boutte, Bourne, Polk, and a draft pick.
Diggs and Hollins are the only ones that are Vrabel and McDaniels 'guys'. I think all the other spots are up for grabs. While unlikely, I would not be shocked if both Bourne and Douglas are not on the roster in September

Do you think the team has approved at all since the hiring of Vrabel?

Improved, yes; but that's damning with faint praise...

I found too many of the coaching hires were hit or miss for my liking: I feel we regressed at Tight Ends, and going from The Worst WRs coaches in the league, to a loyal buddy of the HC who has NEVER coached the position before and has a reputation of being quite the **** Head, is NOT the direction I would've gone... I also wish we didn't have another first-time Defensive Co-ordinator... And don't forget, the same nepo-clowns from last year (and the year before that, and the year before that...) are Still upstairs this Entire offseason too.

As for the personnel itself, on offense the only signing that has directly impacted a known position of need with a contract that reflected the need as well as the condition of the player filling it has been Morgan Moses at Right Tackle. Schweitzer & Bradberry are just More of the Same at the C/G positions; and Left Tackle? Absolutely ****ing NOTHING. 3rd-Down Back? More Nothing. WR until Steph infection Diggs? Even More Nothing (The Dirty Mack Hollins does NOT count).
For the defense, while we've found our Matt Judon replacement - maybe, we hope - I still don't understand what good having a Ridiculously Expensive pass-rushing 3-Tech DT is when we are Absolute Shyte at stopping the run and can't score Nearly Enough to take the leads that would provide opportunities for William$ to do what he does best anyway... And the other two positions on defense to address - Outside CB #2 and Free Safety - were "answered" by throwing away cash - most Especially and Egregiously toward the CB - at two unreliable, injury-prone and Declining players... For different reasons, All Three of those signings made No ****ing Sense to me for what we needed then, and in some cases - Run-Stopping DT, starting-caliber Free Safety (because I consider Peppers a better Strong Safety at this stage of his career) - still need now.

Unless this up-coming draft proves otherwise - and I have no reason whatsoever to believe that it will - then we're still the 3rd-best team in a 4-team division, 10th-best in the conference, tops.

It's only 28M Guaranteed.

this is what Steph Stradley said:

“I like Diggs. Competitive, sharp guy. Really hard worker in camp, wants to help teammates. Solid route runner, chain mover. Hard to know what he will be post knee issue, unsure how that will effect his game.”

I still take him. Diggs + hunter was my dream scenario once they showed interest in diggs .

Plus the potential of maye to hunter for the next 10 years

While I'd rather have Carter we could offer Cleveland Joe Milton and 4 for the 2nd overall?

Id do it. That would almost essentially erase the buffalo win where milton obtained that kind of value (if he has that)lol
