Patriots Sign WR Brandon LaFell to 3-year contract

I'm thinking that when you look at how Hernandez was used and consider that in many ways he was basically a WR with good blocking skill against smaller DBs he faced, Lafell could run a similar role and similar plays (though not as talented as AH). With being known as a great blocker and ok receiver he fits the bill pretty well to create a mismatch against a DB or LB depending on defense.

Yeah, that Welker guy never caught on...

He caught on..
But how many SB's did he cost us? Cause he came up small?

Yes I'm spoiled! We should all be spoiled! We have the greatest QB to ever play, and we're giving him Brandon lafell?...as comp. For Dobson to be his #1 WR? Lol!

Apparently Belichick isn't quite as sold on the immense talent of Kenbrell Thompkins (who may not even make the team in 2014), and the oft-injured Aaron Dobson as some of the fans here are.

It's fine to have young talent to bring in for 25-30 snaps a game, while you're using Dobson in 3 WR sets. It's another altogether to want to depend on such players as Tom Brady enters the final few yrs of his career.

But that's exactly my point. I don't see LaFell as a better option than those 2 from what I have watched of him with the Panthers since he's been a rookie. Plays scared, has average hands, average speed, and his physical tools are nothing to write home about. He's the definition of average NFL receiver.

So where's the upgrade? KT and Dobson looked no worse than LaFell did his first year, but both of those guys looked more fearless in what I have seen of them compared to LaFell.

Maybe BB panicked when he saw the Denver Broncos signed Emmanuel Sanders.

Who knows?

LaFell has to be better than Michael "Molasses Mike" Jenkins? I hope so.

We could've signed Nicks for a similar price. Wow

Pretty sure that had zero to do with it.
Sanders couldn't make anybody panic except Tomlin and Big Ben after doing something stupid. Guy has a lot football IQ, screws up often, and isn't good.

Sure, I guess, but that doesn't make me feel better.

Ugh.

I wonder what Tom's thinking. Sometimes I think he's quiet and a good solider to a fault.

Bet he's called Revis to welcome to the team though

The 2 teams that know him better than anyone didn't want to touch him with a 10 foot pole.

The giants made no offer, and the Panthers with Dave Gettleman offered in the neighborhood of 2, Nicks may be as much of a headcase as Britt.

They should both be vet min signing until they prove their sanity.

Tom Brady is glad that he has all 5 receivers back from last year's starting team: Amendola, Edelman, Dobson, Boyce and Thompkins.

Tom Brady is glad to see some additions that may or may not work out. LeFell certainly looks like fine competition for a roster spot.

I suspect that Tom will spend a lot of time with Edelman and Dobson. He knows that they will be on the 53 man roster.

I'm not going to argue with 6'2 and 210. LaFell could be a nice compliment to Dobson who is 6'3. That takes the Patriots listed Wide Receivers to;

Code:
Aaron Dobson 6'3
Mark Harrison 6'3
Brandon LaFell 6'2
Kenbrell Thompkins 6'0
Danny Amendola 5'11
Josh Boyce 5'11
Julian Edelman 5'10

That's the beginning of a nice spread of size, speed and capability there. The Patriots definitely needed a taller outside threat for the Red Zone. Let's bring in Britt (6'3 223) on a low ball offer, see what he has then assess further as the offseason develops.

You'd never guess by how Dobson played that he's 6'3. I hope he learns how to play big. Maybe browner can rough him up a bit.
