I go to way too many camp practices every season because I can. Last summer I posted, amid the "Revis is GONE!!! Oh NOES!!!" hysteria, that Malcolm Butler looked more than able at the #1 in practices...a fact later borne out by his actual in season play.I also played up the play of Roberts in camp as he clearly pushed Logan Ryan for reps. In the first preseason game, one I attended,Roberts had 5 tackles, tied for 3rd on the D in that game and was around the ball every play. Ryan, by contrast, had 2 tackles and was beaten badly more than once. So yeah, there sure is a reason to have some optimism in the six foot, long armed Roberts. Just watching him compete with the others in the backfield makes that clear...to anyone who ACTUALLY takes the time to attend.
So, Biggers? We'll SEE when the June and July camps start up. Roberts SHOULD make it back from a broken wrist without any discernible effect on his speed or tackling ability, and THAT really intrigues me.
But enough of this pro Patriot stuff...back to "KNOWER OF THINGS!!!!" time with the expert panel of fans who never actually see anything in person.
It still confuses me why they were so quick to put Roberts on IR. He looked really good during the preseason and has all the physical attributes that you would want in a CB. I didn't see any moves made after that IR designation that made me say, "oh... okay... that's what it was for", either. Would have loved for him to be able to cut his teeth in that defense last year and word only a month or two later was that he was already back at the facility working out. Oh well. Hopefully we can see what the kid brings to the table this year.
Bill just allowed a tremendous, tremendous opportunity slip right through his fingers.
