Re: Patriots release Chris Baker [SMY: Not good locker room guy]

I'll do the Lonnie Paxton snowangel in the middle of my living room floor if we get Olsen.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

There are 2 TEs on the Roster. Both were guys who the Pats had on the Practice Squad last year. Robbie Agnone and Rob Myers..

Defensive coaches will kept up late at night scheming to stop those guys.

BTW did you all know that Matt Light played some TE in college and was begging the coaches to throw to him last season? Anyway speaking of slow foot speed but he would be the best blocking TE in the league or at least the biggest.

Sorry that such little things as FACTS are a problem for you.

I am pretty sure most coaches weren't scheming to stop Pats TEs to begin with.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

Maybe he's clearing as much room as he can to raid the FA market. The RFA tenders are all very short money(personally, I wouldn't mind losing Mankins and Gostkowski to pick up another 1st, 2nd, and 3rd) that should have a minimal impact on FA spending.

Mankins gone? Easily one of the top 5-7 guys on the team, oh yeah, let that stiff get signed elsewhere....

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

perhaps the Pats no longer believe in TEs and would rater use eligible OL's..I really want Watson back.
This also says something about the pats ability to evaluate talent.

You too. Watson is awful. He never plays with passion or anger, all the talent in the world with toughness of a 13 year old pre testosterone boy... Good riddance.

Gosh he was not that bad. I have a terrible feeling that he is going to light it up in some other system...ugh I hope not.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

Letting Danny Graham go was a huge Fu(kup by BB IMO - Blockers and clutch catchers like him (when you needed him to be there) don't come often.

Like he did so great after he left. Hands like feet and overpaid x2 since he left, what a prize.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

It's amazing how people like yourself continue to harp on the drops he had in his ROOKIE year.

After his rookie year, his drops went down and down and down. The last 2 seasons with the Pats he only had 1 or 2 draps. TOTAL.

The man in 8 years has never caught more then 409 yards in a season, and never caught over 38 passes. 4 years betweem 24 and 38 catches is his best. He's a stiff.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker

like I have said many times before.......when graham left, so did any semblance of toughness the pats offense had. take your pick, 2006 and 2007.....you could say if graham was here, there would be 2 more trophies in the closet

so people who scoff at the 5 years 30M should think about that once in a while.......with graham around, the pats ran at will on tampa 2 teams, they would have taken care of the colts in '06, and he would have been the extra blocker the pats needed against the giants......especially since they managed to find a way to give jarvis green the money they gave him

A healthy Colvin would have been a much better way to win those two trophies, not a TE (that BTW was here in 2006) that's an overpaid after thought.

Talent? He is the league average TE. Don't let his body and speed fool you. Randy Moss makes playing football look easy, Ben Watson makes playing football look really, really hard.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker [SMY: Not good locker room guy]

Meanwhile, the Patriots chances of drafting a TE in the 2010 draft skyrocket. Many Pats fans are seen *facepalming*. *g*

Including me.

I smell a 2nd-rounder being used for a TE now...and I do mean smell. I'd rather sign Algae Crumpler, then use one of the 7th-round comps on a young blocker like Michael Whosyourmama, Nate Byham or Jim Dray, or on an injury risk receiving-type like Dedrick Epps, and also sign Scott Sicko as a UDFA.

We went from 5 legit candidates entering TC last year, to prob. 0 legit candidates as of today. And now Brady will have to "start from scratch" in order to "get on the same page" with a whole new cast of characters. Wonderful.

And how the hell did Bill not know about potential attitude problems with Baker? It's not like he played in the NFCWest his whole career, either.

If Bill hadn't traded David Thomas, and had drafted Ben Patrick (with any 1 of his 4 6th-rounders - or his 1st 7th-rounder - in '07), then losing Watson & releasing Baker (if he had been signed in the first place) would've been no big deal, or at least not as big a deal as it is now.

Chris Baker never struck me as an integral part of the offense anyway. No more than Kyle Brady was when he was with the team, at least.

He was underwhelming. I didn't think he was terrible, though. Just didn't do a heck of a lot.

If it's true that BB dumped him for not only lack of productivity, but for being the unsavory sort in the locker room, that speaks volumes for the type of team he wants this year.

i think both had attitude issues that limited their effectiveness. Brady as I recall almost left the team early on and reportedly Baker blew his wad making the roster and then coasted...and collected.

Which just underscores the fact that until you see a player in your system you really can't assess his value. And even then, until the season unfolds and some adversity befalls, you don't really know whether you're getting value.

Watson on the other hand never stopped trying...it just wasn't ever a comfortable fit because he just couldn't pull it all (blocking, route running, adjustments, catching balls) together with any consistency.

Revisionist history is revisionist.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker [SMY: Not good locker room guy]

Revisionist history is revisionist.

Except in this case, it's not revisionist; it's how I - and prob. some others -felt in 2007 regarding Patrick, and last year regarding Thomas.

Re: Patriots release Chris Baker [SMY: Not good locker room guy]

There was a guy named Baker on the pats?
Really?

Never saw him..................

Good riddance........
