Patriots release Cameron Meredith

Pats really threw a lot against the wall and nothing seemed to stick. I really though that between Harris, Inman, Thomas or Meredith the Pats had found themselves a solid 3/4 type receiver. They really need Harry to contribute when he is ready.
Inman...i would have given him more chances...

Clearing off $600,000 increases their available cap space by about 33%. I’m guessing it was a factor along with the knee just not getting better.

The waiver didn’t mean there were no cap effect of him remaining on the PUP. He was getting paid and would have continued to be. The waiver gave the Pats the right to release him despite him being injured which you usually can’t do without an injury settlement.

I understand all of this.

The 33% might sound like much but only in relative terms as his weekly pay was about 36K. His release won't help the team with anything in the short-term and over an entire year is almost negligible relative to a player who could potentially contribute.

My point was that his release was not directly cap related but much more likely had to do with some kind of medical checkpoint they reached where his progress didn't hold up with the expectations/projections.

Its like 2009 if 2009 had an elite defense.

The team brought back Jordan Richards. No defense with him can ever be considered elite!

Joking aside, I am still not convinced. Four games is just four games. Happy to call them Elite after 16.

Inman doing really well for the Chargers.

If it helps, the defense has allowed 13 total 1st half points over its last 9 games going back to last season:
- Bills twice
- Jets twice
- Chargers
- Chiefs
- Rams
- Steelers (with Big Ben)
- Dolphins

The only significant subtraction from last year to this year was losing Flowers (arguably losing Clayborn and Brown), the additions who’ve seen reasonable game action have been Bennett, Collins, Bentley and Winovich.

Chargers scored garbage time points in 2nd half. Chiefs 2nd half was obviously more concerning, but they are the best offense in the league.
