Last year they were out within a few hours of the games ending. NFL is pretty quick. NBC has to pick which game it wants for the primetime matchup, also.

It's official: Pats have a BYE (fun fact included)

So with the victory over the Bills the Pats have once again wrapped up a first round bye.

Listening to the media pundits you'd think the Pats have fallen out of the group of elite teams in the league, but the reality is that the Patriots are only one of two teams (Packers being the other) that have made the playoffs the last four seasons.

No other team can say that.

Further mind boggling, is that in the last four seasons the Pats have not only qualified for the playoffs, but have earned a bye in all four years. Not even the Packers can say that.

IT really is amazing. I'm too young to have been a fan of the old Pats that were laughing stocks of the league, but even as a fan of the Bledsoe era I know what it was like just hoping other teams would lose so the Pats still had a shot at the playoffs. These days making the playoffs is an afterthought and that we are more concerned with seeding. Just goes to show how spoiled we are these days, but in a good way.

Win or lose the Pats have already treated us to a great season. A Super Bowl would just be icing on the cake.

I remember well those earlier years that you missed.

It's one of the reasons that I don't come on this board much after a Pats loss, because I know that it's still a game. The sun will still come up the next morning, etc.

Now, that doesn't mean I don't CARE about the games. I do, and very much so. However, I don't live my life through New England, it's something that I enjoy, that I read up on, and it's nice to see all the winning offset those earlier struggling years.

But what those earlier decades bring is a greater respect for the game, for the wins, and for the Golden Era of Championship Football that we are living through. Time will tell how long it lasts, but for now..... enjoy the ride. It really doesn't get much better than this. :rocker:

I'm actually baffled that NBC picked the Saints-DAL/PHI game to showcase on wildcard weekend?

I don't think NBC had a say in the matter. They get whoever the NFL gives them in that slot.

I don't understand that at all.

Usually, the #1 seed gets the Saturday slot and the #2 seed gets the Sunday slot - - the extra day rest/prep is a nice advantage for the Conference Championship game.

I don't understand how the Pats lucked out there, but I love it!

the main reason i like this spot is because it gives us an extra day of rest for the AFCCG, but only IF we win....meanwhile, denver would get less rest

I never understand why they give the 2nd seed an extra day (assuming both 1st and 2nd seeds win)
