They won't get a chance to because he will be tagged. And good as he is no one is going to part with two firsts for the chance to sign a 31 year old slot WR...even if he's the best one in the league.

You forgot about the ghost of Al Davis.

Agreed. Wes will get the tag and then the team will figure out a way to get him paid. I just don't see him as the kind of guy who would see money as the driving factor in a contract. As with Brady & others on the team, there are a lot of other factors to consider, and all the money in the world won't salve over playing for a losing team.

Even Al's ghost doesn't have any picks left...and it's probably turning over in it's grave that the shell of a braintrust he left behind allowed a rookie HC like Hue freakin' Jackson to make that trade...

That sounded like a contractual obituary...

I'd be legitimately upset if we let Wes go.

Tom Brady will be angry if the Patriots let Welker go.

And, more importantly, Welker is on record that he's already more money than he ever expected to, and that he wouldn't be as successful playing elsewhere. I can't say it's 100% that Welker is in New England next year, but I'd say it's a lot closer to 100% than even 50%, let alone zero.

IMO Wes understands the "Patriot Way" and will sign. Also believe if he gets tagged it(contract) wont get played out in the media.
