Patriots - NFL's Second Most Hated?

I didn't read through your whole post, but you say you don't recall me saying I thought BB and Brady were great? Go look up the Brady VS Manning thread from a couple of weeks ago. It's in there. You may not recall it but that doesn't mean I didn't do it.

And as far as having credibility with you, I'll get over not having it. It's tough having a total stranger on the internet say I've lost credibility, (especially one who says he doesn't "recall" me saying something I did) but I'll soldier on.
You're again twisting words; perhaps it is because you (ironically) didn't bother to take the time to read a comment yet do take the time to reply to it. But I realize you must be very busy defending Peyton Manning anywhere somebody on the internet says something negative about him, so in an attempt to help you with your mission, just read the last paragraph. When you jump to the conlusion that everybody in a particular group thinks the same way or does the same thing based on the actions of a minute portion of that group, your argument falls apart. As a result of that hasty generalization, other things you say tend to be considered less credible.

The Colts aren't hated for the same reason the 49ers weren't hated and the same reason he Steelers aren't hated. It's not just about success, the Pats have a very negative image. Remember "embrace the hate"? Their fans and the team seem to enjoy being the badguys. Pats fans love talking trash. That's why they are hated. Same reason the Cowboys and Raiders are hated. As has been pointed out, neither of those teams has won anything in years, yet they are still the most hated teams in football. It's not just success that makes teams hated, it's the way they respond to the success and act towards other teams and fans.
You added in this paragraph, so let me respond. In my opinion the 49ers weren't hated because the Cowboys and Raiders were still very good, and they wore the black hats. If those two were non-contenders then things may have been different. In addition, that was pre-internet, pre-24 hour sports talk radio. As far as the Steelers go, you can see they are quickly climbing up that list; that would not be the case without the Super Bowl victories.

Regarding the Pats and the hate being born of a negative image, I'll agree to a point. However, how do you explain the team being loved by all in 2001 to being hated by most everyone just two and three years later? The only difference was continued success.

Finally "Pats fans love talking trash, that's why they're hated." I'm curious, what do you base that opinion on? Going to a pats fans site, saying something negative about them, and the responses you get? What do you expect? Or is it possible that you are looking specifically for a Pats fan to say something that you don't like, such as "Pats are going to win it all this year" on espn or fox or one of the other national sites where the comments are nothing but trash talking between fans of all teams? If you're looking for pats fans to trash talk, that's what you're going to find. It's like fans commenting about the officiating in a game their favorite team is playing in; if all they are looking for is calls that didn't go their way, that's all they're going to see.

Back to the negative image thing. Which came first: the fans and media creating a negative image about the Pats, or the Pats (supposedly) doing something negative that resulted in that image? Remember, the Pats were the most hated team going back to 2003 and 2004.

No offense meant towards rednecks then. Except the one, Mr. Peyton Manning...who I still don't understand gets a free pass for his indiscretions in his college days (imagine if Brady pulled such a stunt!). Whatever it is, there's something about Peyton that's more, shall we say, "red-blooded American" and allegedly easier to relate to for the average fan. And I don't think it's anything necessarily positive. Peyton has a long history of douche-baggery, throwing teammates under the bus & being a whiny *****, whereas Brady is respected & loved by his teammates.
My dear sir, apologies are certainly accepted and there where never any hard feelings knowing your internet persona so well; however, I must continue my correction of your error.

His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince of Manning, is not a "redneck." He is "Suh" a gentleman of the South, an aristocratic and urban son of old New Orleans. Myself, a farm lad, left as an infant to sleep in the wheelbarrow while my mother fed the cows for my father, have bull manure in my blood, as opposed to the blue blood of the Quarterback and drama queen for Indianapolis. Don't let his Southern accent fool you, he may not be Breed's Hill, but he's certainly an aristocratic urbanite of the Kennedy style.

I was never Baltimore thanks so who cares what the Baltimore Colts did? The Colts for me don't exist before 1984, the good or the bad.

And as far as 2005, the Steelers barely won the game. You can say "if it wasn't for the fumble" etc, but then others can say the Steelers wouldn't have won the SB if the refs hadn't blown so many calls. I could also say if Warner didn't throw an interception as the first half was running out, and if the refs didn't make a pretty obvious no call on the runback, the Steelers don't beat the Cardinals.

1996 is the only PO game the Steelers "beat up" the Colts. I mean, it doesn't matter, the Steelers won, but they were close games. And the Colts haven't done badly against the Steelers of late, they beat the hell out of them in the 2005 regular season and of course they beat them in their house last year.

Hold on I'm busy counting the Colts wins over the Steelers in the playoffs...ok Done...Zero.

It must stink being on the other end of a game with a name. I know Raiders fans hate the "Tuck Rule" Game and the "Immaculate Reception" Game, and of coarse the Cowboys hate "Jackie's Agony" but that's more a play that signified a Super Bowl. How about "the Tackle" When Your man cut in and was tackled by the QB? Pretty funny that. Browns hate "The Drive" Cowboys hate "The Catch"

I've got one, "The Coin Flip" yep, Thanksgiving Dinner never came up faster. Think that might have been the last time Detroit actually won on Thanksgiving.

49ers of the 80s I didn't hate, but, once Montana was gone, a lot of Love for them was gone too and there were a lot of people that did in fact, "Flip" on the 49ers once they Started Young over Montana. A lot of love was actually thrown toward KC when that went down. People wanted to see Montana win with Marcus Allen in KC. Too bad their team couldn't get it done. Still, 9ers did start to draw a lot of evil eyes, but yes, the Cowboys were the DOGS of the league and most hated then.

NFC In General was hated for at least 15 years by the AFC. Giants, Bears, 49ers, Cowboys, Redskins. All beatin the Snot out of the Bills and Dever and Bengals and Dolphins and winning all those freaking Titles.

So glad that has flipped.

Still hate the Raiders and Cowboys though.

I find the Colts to be a Cute Little Team.

You find the Colts to be a "cute" team? How cute was it when they went to Pitt last year and beat your boys?

Seriously, most Pittsburgh fans I've dealt with showed class when their team won and Steelers fans have a lot to be proud of, but you seem to be an loudmouthed condescending exception.

The Steelers are doing well now, but they still lag behind (way behind) GB, the Giants and Chicago as far as titles go so I wouldn't let those britches get too big if I were you.

We'll see how things go this year. The "cute" Colts are going to be tough.

How many titles do the Colts have?

So 1/3rd as many as the Pats have this decade. Cool.

1. You should know that. Remember they beat your team to get to it?

So you're saying one?

What about the one's they got in 1958, 1959, 1968, and 1970?

I do find it pretty interesting that it took the Colts 0 years to win they're first three titles in ten years. And they only have two SB which they got in a 36 year span . . .

Well, those were the Baltimore Colts. Baltimore is a different city? Different owner....QB.....GM....players......fans......

So like I said in an earlier post, I don't take credit for wins or care about losses before 1984. Johnny Unitas was an all time great QB, but he never played for my team.

And it's interesting that you mention the Baltimore Colts Championships because as I'm sure our friend Dino is aware, the Steelers cut Unitas without even giving the guy a chance. He's the reason Baltimore won those titles so quickly. And I'm not sure exactly how many NFL titles they won, so I could be wrong, but I think the Baltimore Colts had 3. 2 in the late 50's early 60's and a Super Bowl.

It took the Steelers a little while to win their first title too.

That's cool. So bow you're down to 1 SB.

That's nice.

And when they did they added three more in the same decade.

What have the Colts done since they won their first?

Aww poor fella, did I touch a nerve?

That was an adorable win for you last year. Probably made you feel good about your team too, you know, winning in Pittsburgh in the Regular season. Bet you had your hopes up too for a playoff run. Too bad the Broncos and Ravens weren't there for you to play since they are the only teams it seems like the Colts can actually beat in the playoffs.

Hey for the record, I do like Manning, mostly because he's goofy in all his commercials and makes me laugh. He's a Great QB too, fun to watch.

I also find Tony Dungy to be Over Rated. As far as being a "All Time Head Coach" I don't think he's top 10. Wouldn't put Cowher top 10 either or Jeff Fisher. They are 2nd Level to the likes of Bill Walsh, Bill Parcells, Bill B (yes top 10, 3 rings) Tom Landry, Hank Strahm, Vince (moment of silence to recognize the greatness) Lombardi, Chuck Noll, Don Shula (Great all Time coach, but not the greatest) Joe Gibbs, George Halas. Heck Tom Flores was the First Minority Head Coach to win a Super Bowl and he did it Twice. Jimmy Johnson was actually pretty good, top 15 maybe.

Don't forget Bill Belichick's choice as THE All-Time NFL Coach. "The Man in the gray Fedora". The only man to have an NFL team named after him... Coach Paul Brown.

Right, Paul Brown. The Name Brown throws me a little because after all I am a Steelers fan
