Patriots new OC - Alex Van Pelt

Be serious. Bill wasn’t going to part ways with the full control he had for 20+ years.
Kraft outright said it a couple hours after Bill was shown the door. His whole press conference was "it wasn't feasible to take away that power from him, we need leadership that has checks and balances, people need to be able to say no so that the coach can be protected from themselves".

AKA: I wasn't going to be able to pull control away from Bill under the set up he created and we got to a point where he could make any decision he wanted and he either had yes men going a long with it or people who were just there to get by that didn't want to challenge decisions they disagreed with and put themselves at risk"

Wasn’t he the Bills QB in that game in Foxboro in the 90s where Bledsoe led a last minute game winning TD drive and they walked off the field at the PAT to protest a call then letting Adam get an easy 2 pt convert? Lol
Idk, but he's got more 4QC and GWDs than Mac, so there's that. Fortunately we didn't hire him as a QB.

Come on now, nothing was more ridiculous than having Patricia call plays and Judge as QB coach. LMAO, that was a doozy.
At least McDaniels wasn’t available or BB would make him linebackers coach.

lNo OC wants to come to a bad offense with uncertainty at QB where the best TE is hitting FA, the best RB is hitting FA, and the best OL is hitting free agency. I'm shocked we weren;t a priority.

Get used to the idea that Bill left this team in horrible shape at the end of a failed rebuild and this isn't going to be an immediate turnaround.

This is it !! Caley was not even interested to come here . Pats just leaked some fake news to make it look as if we had options.

If we left van pelt , we literally had 0 options . Lions coordinator might be staying back for 1 more year with Ben johnson and getsy might also nit have been interested .

If I am Kraft, I am furious with the way Bill left the organization.

I don't think we will draft a QB this season. We might be able to garner more excitement with MHJ than Jayden daniels .

Most likely Brissett should head back here.

I'm reading here that he doesn't even make the play calls.

So what exactly is he even doing?

It's a really sad world when people are defending higher in a coach from the freaking Browns. Might have the mighty fallen.
I mean, Browns went 11-6 w/ 4 different QBs.
Pats went 4-13 with 2 different QBs.

What exactly are you complaining about?

I am not impressed with Mayo’s hirings so far. It’s like a reject of other teams ! So much for thinking we would become more innovative!!! I will obviously wait and reserve final judgement during the season but first impressions are not very good.
i think you are undervaluing what an experienced coordinator brings to the table... That experience is going to be invaluable in the short term while Mayo learns on the job

Honestly, I’m good with 2/3 coordinator hires. ST guy is an odd choice, but who knows.

Bring in Brissette (familiar with Van Pelt and Pats) as a placeholder, get a QB in rd 1 or 2 to let sit, keep the Defense at par, and I could see 7-8 wins.

Albert Breer with some interesting insight on the Cleveland situation about the 4-5 minute mark of the embedded video: Van Pelt was the glue that held the offense together and Stefanski wasn't the one who fired him.

The focus is on what Van Pelt did with Cleveland’s QB situation but also consider the fact that Nick Chubb was also lost, yet they had Jerome Ford step right in and also look great. They additionally had Elijah Moore looking very good at WR. David Njoku had a 900 yard season at TE. There’s a lot to like. Made lemonade out of one lemon seed, 3 shreds of lemon rinds and the receipt for the lemons.

And that's why he had to go.

But that has nothing to do with how they've been putting together this team so far this season.
Bill went 4-12. He ****ed up the QB position, he put together a bad coaching staff in his final seasons.

I don’t know a lot about Van Pelt other than the information just coming in and neither do you. It will take time to determine whether this is the correct move.

You are being overly dramatic and reactionary.

Meh…Kraft did WATCH Bill run this team off a cliff for three years. He shares some blame for not doing it sooner IMO.

I’ll take heat, but at min Bill should have been gone after last years debacle on Offense.

I'm definitely less knowledgeable about Van Pelt than others here, but it's hard to ignore the comedy of injuries on the offensive side of the ball in Cleveland. The fact they were actually able to piece together a playoff team out of the rubble speaks volumes to me about the quality of the coaching. It took a historic game from Stroud and a "back into a pumpkin" game from Flacco for the Browns to be ousted.

After what we've seen the last 4 years, I think it's reasonable to give the new regime 2 years to turn things around. I also realize that with the state of this offense any superstar OCs are avoiding this team and its resume-killing abilities like the plague.

Whoever they choose at the top of the draft MUST hit. It's that simple.

Gradually feeling a little better as we hear more.

I know we're in a bad place when y'all think the offensive coordinator coming out of Cleveland through no choice of his own is our answer to how bad our offense has been for the better part of the past 6 seasons.

I'm sorry it's not optimistic enough for you but this place is for reactions and that's what you're getting. My reaction.

I'll be the first person to say I'm wrong if it works out.
