Patriots new OC - Alex Van Pelt

Huh??

Love does not look better than Burrow, I'd have a hard time saying he's better than Herbert, and honestly, a few games I watched I saw a QB who got bailed out by his receivers really twisting and turning to catch his throws. I like Love, but he hasn't proved a whole lot yet.
I wasn't talking about burrow or Herbert. We are talking about 2021 wher 5 QBs we're drafted in top 15. That class was also considered very strong like this year .

Burrow was 1st qb taken, Herbert 2nd , stroud 2nd. We will be picking the 3rd one and one that shot off the boards in a year with twiggy legs and 2 superstar receivers. I don't want us to draft a qb who gets hurt 5 games into the season.

Need to have a rookie who will contribute in his rookie season like Rasheed rice, stroud, witherspoon etc.

I don't think anyone was asking to fire Belichick so we can hire a coordinator who was fired by the Browns.

I thought we were going to aim a little higher but I guess not.
You do realize 16 teams changed OCs and out of all of them we had the worse offense, depleted of any talent. Your thinking was misguided. Given the above, this is a surprisingly solid hire.

Belichick needed to go, although that doesn’t mean I’m interested in Van Pelt.

Belichick the GM needed to go. We have not upgraded our coaching staff if that's what you're saying.

I love this choice! Tons of experience, a west coast system, former QB, longtime QB coach, and got a ton of offense out of a revolving door of QBs last year including the corpse of Joe Flacco. Worked with Aaron Rodgers during his prime as his QB coach. There’s a lot to like here. Don’t know why people are so damn whiny. If they hired some 32 year old with no experience that would’ve been wrong too.

It might be the right hire and work out well, but it’s not exactly inspiring. For the moment, I’m just going to make jokes about it.

Wasn’t he the Bills QB in that game in Foxboro in the 90s where Bledsoe led a last minute game winning TD drive and they walked off the field at the PAT to protest a call then letting Adam get an easy 2 pt convert? Lol

I'm reading here that he doesn't even make the play calls.

So what exactly is he even doing?

It's a really sad world when people are defending higher in a coach from the freaking Browns. Might have the mighty fallen.

More likely a decision made by Kraft.

People really need to stop giving Kraft a pass for not hiring the best.
People need to stop pretending every bad decision was Kraft interferring and every good decision was Bill. Bill Belichick was not some poor guy that got railroaded by a meddling owner. He was the most powerful coach in the entire NFL in a league that had moved on from the archaic structure of an emperor HC and he spent the last few years alienating star players like Brady and Gronk, making nonsense draft picks against his scouts and hiring his buddies as coaches because he just wanted yes men.

Here are the definitive times we know Kraft got involved and stopped Bill from making a decision.

1. Trading Tom Brady in 2017. Brady was having an MVP caliber year. It would have been an absolutely insane move and would have gotten Bill fired years earlier.

2. Firing Antonio Brown. Antonio Brown got suspended as soon as his next team signed him and was radioactive and literally spit in the face of Brady and everyone who gave him a second chance AND NOW is nobody in the league will even talk to the guy.

3. Told Bill he had to get rid of Matt Patricia and get a real OC. Hiring Matt Patricia was a decision that everyone in the league BUT Bill Belichick thought was a good idea. The average fan realized that was a stupid decision.

So in every situation, Kraft ended up being right, in the first situation he saved Bill from losing the GOAT and losing a Super Bowl in 2018 (and probably an appearance in 2017) and having a losing record in 2019 and kickstarting his retirement tour. In the second instance he just got ahead of Bill on a suspension that was coming down. And in the third instance he saved Bill from looking like a maniac for trying to run it back with Patricia. Kraft probably should have gotten even more involved.

Maybe I misunderstood what you meant by "The draft class where Jordan love was drafted was also touted to be really weak but love seems to be the best qb now of 2020 and 2021 class" - if you only meant 2021, the year he wasn't drafted, then ok.

Any of the first time OC candidates never called the plays either.

Yeah I don't know what your point is. If your point is that the Browns are awesome on offense and it's a great hire then I disagree with you.

Because my point is that the Browns haven't been very good and frankly have been disappointing considering the talent they've had an offense the last few years so without really digging deep into it my first reaction is that there's a reason he was let go

I believe Flutie was the Bills QB at the time.

You need not look any further than what's happening right now to know that Kraft isn't Field of the best coaching.

I've already seen people blame it on Belichick for depleting this team to the point where no one wants to work here but money talks and ******** walks so that's on Kraft.

What I responded to was this:

”That's exactly what we need. A offensive coordinator who didn't even call the plays.”

I’m telling you that‘s no different than going with a guy that has no experience.
