Not saying you're wrong.... but to play DA, perhaps the original intent was racist in nature but once he found out the suspect was an NFL player, he chose differently?

Looking back at my post, I didn't word it well. What I meant to say is based on how the registration is done in Texas, there would be nothing stopping a person from cancelling insurance if the registration window sticker was all the proof needed for insurance. The registration is good for a year. What proof of insurance is there a week after the sticker is put on the vehicle?

I assumed years back that Texas also had a way to show insurance coverage by looking up the DL#, as soon as an officer handed back my insurance card saying he didn't need it. Then later on when stopped I was asked for my license and proof of insurance. Then just the license again. Then both again. So I honestly don't know.

They never ask for proof of insurance in NH (because you don't need it - Live Free or Die!) or MA that I am aware of, even though you do need insurance in MA.

That defies the logic behind a racist cop pulling over someone because he was a “black man driving a nice car.” A racist cop is giving whatever nitpicky ticket he can and would probably be more likely to do so upon hearing the guy plays in the NFL and makes more in a couple of months than that cop does in a year. Implying racism here defies everything we know about this right now.

What I'm saying is, not every racist cop is dumb or steadfast in their own logic. Not every instance or "suspect" is the same. Citing an nfl player through racist intentions has different repercussions than citing an average black citizen. Maybe this is part of the reasoning why ER wasn't cited. If the original intent was racist in nature, the decision making process for handling the situation might have been affected by ER's employment/status.

I would like to ps this with saying I have no idea if the cops were or acted discriminatory during this incident.

I have never heard of someone go 24mph over and not get a ticket.....that said, seems like a lot of noise for something they were just going to let him go over

I’ve been in enough situations to know if you rule the cop, you get the ticket....so how come no ticket....I think I know the answer

The proof of insurance is built into the registration in MA

Roberts did nothing wrong and I don’t believe he was speeding.....if he was, you could be sure the police would have released the footage of him speeding

If he was going 59 in a 35 somewhere, why’d they wait until he got home to light him up? He wasn’t speeding in the video so that means that if he was speeding it was sometime earlier and that he should have been pulled over earlier.....which also tells me they knew who he was and where he lived.

    Roberts did nothing wrong

The video has him driving past a 35 sign. Can’t tell his speed. He turned lights on after he turned. Maybe because he would rather not do a traffic stop on a road with no shoulder.

I read on the houston chronicle he was on Pitts Rd in Richmond. The drummer for ZZ Top owns a house on that road. I laughed inside since I thought of Arrested for driving while blind but replaced blind in my head with black.

It was just like "Cops". Yelling at me to get out of the car. Hands up. I was polite and polite can be. Shuttling me over to the hood. Cuffed. Turns out the guy they wanted shot some store owner and rented the same kind of car I had.

After they ran my info, asked me some questions, I showed em my airline tickets , hotel, and saw zip for a criminal history, they uncuffed me, apologized and told me what the deal was. I matched the description of the car thief perfectly too. LOL.

Never been so scared in my life.

He might have slowed down as he was approaching a right hand turn.

Pretty easy to go 59 in a Porsche

Or maybe he was targeted.....he was at no time during the video driving 59mph.....you can’t gauge speed, but I can...there are many hints to his speed ... the amount of braking to make that turn, for example.

There was absolutely no reason for the cops to behave the way they did
