Patriots hire Donta Hightower to coach LBs!

A lil fun question that I'm sure some will scoff at thinking they know the answer: who's a better LB? Mayo or Hightower?

Mayo produced some of the most consistent play on some of our worst defenses. He was a coverage LB compensating for a horrible secondary. Hard for me to pick out of the two. Would've been interesting to see a healthy Mayo on a good defense.
I don't think it's close Mayo was great but it's Hightower.

Hopefully it's better than the Troy Brown hire
Meyers, Bourne and Pops have been fine w Troy.

When your QBs are sub standard and have 3 OCs in 3 years **** happens

Hightower is responsible for 2 of the top 5 greatest pressure packed playoff defensive plays during the dynasty.

1. Malcolm
2. Sack/FF of Ryan
3. Forklifts a ProBowl OT and has a goal line stop of Skittles
4. Jason McCourty breakup of sure TD
5. Gilly pick same SB

You obviously are only talking the second dynasty.

Had Mayo been drafted later, we'd be having a different conversation. He was unfortunately wasted during his best years on horrible defenses. Statistically, he blows HT out of the water. In fact, HT only moved to ILB when both Mayo and Spikes left.

He would've been easily regarded as the Pats best MLB of all time had his career started when their defense started to turn the corner in 2012-2013 when Talib was acquired. Mayo was cooked by 2013.

It's really a shame his name is forgotten when talking about LB's during the 2nd dynasty.

It's really a shame his name is forgotten when talking about LB's just because he didn't win a Super Bowl.
He was on the 2014 team, though on IR by the time of the SB.

Correct. I made the change in my post. However, he wasn’t the same player and only played 6 games that year.

This over and over. Totally agree. If Mayo was on the defenses that helped win championships, when we had a secondary, it would be awesome to see him play. He was a coverage LB before you even saw that becoming more and more prevalent.

Mayo was quietly one of the best LB's in Pats history. I wish there was a universe where we could've seen him with support.

Mayo played when we had our garbage ass secondary and played SO solid. I think if you had Mayo in those big moments, he would've shined just as much had we had the complimentary pieces around him. His coverage abilities would've been awesome in this current NFL. And this isn't to take anything from HT.

He also showed flashes of rushing up the middle when he was let loose.

There is no need to defend Mayo. He was an All-Pro.
