Player Signing Patriots Have Tendered Yodney Cajuste

And he will be cut, unless he comes out of training camp more competitive than he's been.

Offering the tender was a good move. It keeps Cajuste around, hoping he might at last reach potential.

Jennings was an example of a guy who woke up his third year. This is Cajuste's 4th, but there's really no risk, and you probably could keep him around the practice squad as depth later at minimum.
There's no rule requiring them to keep Cajuste at that number.

naah
Someone would offer him vet minimum

Eventually, when people get hurt and teams are desperate, yes, but maybe by then he's on our roster because of our injuries.

Think of the veterans we cut last year who hung around on the practice squad the first few weeks for less than minimum. Terrence Mitchell, Lil Jordan Humphrey, Harvey Langi.....

Before injuries set in, every team has a Yodny Cajuste floating around. You think teams would be interested in a JAG like him, if cut by a team thin at tackle, until they had to be? He's averaged less than 100 snaps per year.

They could hide Cajuste on the practice squad several weeks before anyone needed to sniff around.

Cajuste looks the part of a starting RT in this league, or at least a top backup. He could surprise everyone and take the job. His injuries go back to college where he was projected as a 1st rounder but taken in the 3rd due to an injury. The Pats see this potential in him.

Cajuste was awful at RT imo
If he looks like a starting rt then there are a dozen teams who easily could sign him for a third rd pick and low price a starting rt is a no brainer
Which means the league does not view him as a starter

Since the tender isn't guaranteed, this is basically camp depth and emergency backup kind of stuff. Even with no other additions, he's not on the 53 if you're setting the depth chart tomorrow:

Starters: Brown and Reiff
1st swing T: Anderson
2nd swing T: McDermott
PS Candidates (if the vet rules still apply in 2023): Steuber and Cajuste

I could see one of Steuber/Cajuste beating out McDermott if there's an injury or they ball out in camp, but then again I'm also expecting at least 1 OT to be taken in the draft. If that pick is taken high, it just pushes the whole depth chart down. If it's in the later rounds, it muddies up the competition for those bottom spots. Either way, without a guaranteed contract, Cajuste has an uphill battle to earn a spot on the week 1 roster, IMO.

Yodny Cajuste is getting a good position Coach in Klemm this time around so all I see are positives.

Desperate men do desperate things.

There is nothing about a non-guaranteed contract that says "desperation", unless you've gone into the situation convinced you were going to find it.

Totally forgot about Steuber hope he used the redshirt year to get Stronger he was very weak on the bench presses in pre draft workouts. I think you are selling Cajuste a little short he was a Third rounder for a reason. Now we have a plethora or RT's can't wait to see how it shakes out. Side note on Andrew Stueber though he was a RT he's built much like a Guard with his Girth and size @ 6'7 Mac needs all the protection he can get.
