Patriots FA period assessment (so far)

Robinson signed a 1 year prove it deal. 12 mill with potential to earn 14.5 with incentives.
Sounds perfect for a team with 70 mill on the cap, a horrible LT and plans to draft a LT doesn’t it.
$12 mill for insurance when it’s 12 mill you will probably never spend seems like a good investment.

Cam Robinson sucks. He was below average at his best, and that was about 3 years ago. He's just a name because he was a high pick that stuck around on a bad team .

And how do you know Vrabel didn’t want him and it wasn’t Kraft saying youve spent enough, we can’t afford that one?
Remember he is the guy who spent the least cash in the league over a 20 year period. So there is more precedent that Kraft limits spending than that Vrabel thinks a terrible LT is ok.

I do trust Vrabel, so I want him to be able to spend whatever it takes right up to the cap.

When Lowe is getting Maye killed will you be content that it’s better than Kraft spending what it took to overcome that?
Lowe won’t be starting here opening day.

That’s just not true

As of now he is and there is no one left to sign.
Yet. They don’t play now.

I think they did improve the line as best as they could with what was out there, which I consider improving around Maye. They took some shots on some receivers but there wasn't a lot to be had. For me its a solid B. There was a much better pool of defensive players vs offensive to be had in this free agency.
Disagree in intent with you

I think they were too soft on the market for offense thus far. Only REAL upgrade there is Moses, but he's 34 and comes from a failure of a team

They didn't want to be disruptive on the market on offense and that is a fact. They are "looking for deals" which I THINK we are not in position to be doing, due to our ABSOLUTE suckiness

Disagree......."Looking for deals" when they offered Godwin almost 30 million a year. The available wide receiver market was/is trash. Higgins and Godwin who are both 2s were the best available and they tried to get both, not sure what you expect them to do. Should we have offered Godwin 40 million a year and made him the highest paid WR in the league?

In short yes, i would have no problem.

But to use another argument besides financial, do you really believe these reports that come AFTER a guy has signed? Even if they are true, they dont have the details, how they treated the player, what they said... Those are worse than speculative agents/fake news

I generally dont go by just one report but when I see several I tend to believe there is some truth. I'm confident the Pats offered more but he took the home town deal it is what it is. And unless you have insider information what else do you have to go by other than what's being reported? Which I always take with a grain of salt.

Fair

But if a player doesn't want money first, there are many things to do to convince him.

Saying that we lost joe who for X dollars only means they were willing to offer him up to X, which is far, far from being the only thing in a negotiation

This FA could make or break Vrabel as a HC for the Patriots. I think they spent way too much money on Williams and Davis which both contracts will be scrutinized in 2025. Williams had no business making more than Barmore - none! He'll also be under more pressure if Barmore doesn't play in 2025.

Spillane will add much needed speed to the defense and he can make some plays.

Landry will provide some juice in the pass rush. Chaisson could be a nice rotational piece.

Draft not only needs to be offense heavy, but there needs to be an impact player which the Pats haven't had in over 10 years.
Agreed. If we are able to add diggs it makes the offense tremendous better. Even on and ACL at age 31.. he's still a great player and could help Drake get to the next level. Singing diggs would just have such an immense effect on what we could do offensively. On defense absolutely correct. We can be able to be exotic, multiple, aggressive and put so much pressure on offenses. The defense is designed to slow modern NFL offenses. By dictating and not being reactionary.

Maybe they did try other things to convince him, again I dont know. I have no idea what was said to him but I have to think Vrabel was involved in those discussions and I like everything I have heard from him so far. I'm sure it wasn't just here is the money we can give you and nothing else.

Speculation, which is the basis of this kind of reporting

What is fact is that we need better payers. We need better weapons for Maye.

In regards to Godwin, and all other Wrs so far, is 0.

Jerod Mayo type burning cash! In particular, seems they have stayed out of signing topflight WRs, for example.

No doubt. All those incredible wide receivers and they refused to sign any of them. Cee Dee Lamb is the one that pissed me off the most. After that it’s Justin Jefferson. The Patriots just don’t want to win, that’s why they didn’t sign Joe Alt either, even though they really need a left tackle.

Your speculating they did nothing and I'm speculating they did. I guess we are both reporters now.

Agree we need better players. But everyone on this forum is a Monday morning QB as to what they did or did not do or what they should or should not do. I'm just waiting to see what they accomplish before week 1. Its too early for me to say whether or not they have failed to improve the team.

Not true. Up to X, is me speculating and of course I understand there were "talks" behind the scene. They were not enough, and that's what Im arguing for

but there is nothing to argue anymore. Im not everyone in the forum, I dont spend my days reading what has and has not been said. It's your mistake for generalizing
