Patriots extend offer to Bills RFA RB Mike Gillislee

If he signs Burkhead becomes our back up (salary wise) and he is making what a bit over 3 million. Patriots devote a lot more resources to their pass catchers, qb and tackles than the Bills so I could see the Bills paying 1 million more than us for a backup RB.

I really do like this signing having watched him beat up on us and hope it works out.

Think Long Distance point on new regime usually wanting picks and cap space is a good one.
When exactly did you watch him beat up on us?

Add 5-6M for current draft picks, the fact that they're rebuilding on only 6 picks at the moment and little money to spend in the rest of FA + in-season opportunities.., add also that Gill will have little trade/comp value (like almost all RB).

Again, the only rational thing that possibly keeps them hangin' is a great 2018 value of the deal .. and possibly incredibly deep UDFA class (although priority UDFAs might be costly this year)..

What time is the deadline tomorrow for the Bills to match?

It's supposed to be today but the offices are closed so I would assume it's by the end of business day tomorrow (4 p.m.)

He was productive in limited snaps against Patriots last year.

Week 4:
6 carries
5.0 average

Week 8:
12 carries
7.1 average
Hardly beating up on us.

Given only David Johnson at 89 on 16 carries and Carlos Hyde at 86 with 19 carries had more rush yards against us than Gillislee last year and he had 1 td which was equaled by 4 other backs, I felt he had one of the most effective rushing games of the year against us. Since it is a football forum I used the words beat up on. Passed my couch eye for giving us a real tough time.

I feel like he passes the 3 tests for me....the eye test, the numbers test, and the Belichick test. For me, after the games against buffalo, I went from not knowing who he was to remembering his name.

Exactly.

Burkhead on the other hand I have no memory of him playing us. That signing still seems a bit odd.

Burkhead stepped in for Hill at the end of 2016 and played really well. He's exactly what Belichick looks for in free agency.

I think the Bills are legitimately trying to decide whether or not they want to match. It's really a 50/50 call. Sure he's a backup and it will eat up a good chunk of what little cap space they have - but on the other hand, McCoy gets hurt all the time.

Also, the Patriots sorta win either way here. Keep the pick and make the Bills use cap space, or get Gillislee.

Great times. Let's get em both : B from Cincy IS IN, why not G from BUF as well ? The MORE the merrier. Training camp will show us what's up, RBs do take a pounding so having several options is smart, I'm just as happy to try these guys as I would be w Blount.

Lewis & White are gold a star well. BB has positioned the NE for another fun year in the backfield.

Maybe they are trying to rework someone else's deal to make cap room before committing to keep him. If so I hope the other player is obstinate. LOL
