Getting Hightower, Rivers, and Langi back is big. Hightower is a known commodity and he’s the Patriots best defender in the front seven. Rivers and Langi both flashed potential last season.

Grissom is under contract through 2018 at $720k - not a free agent.

The thing is that, with the loss of Sheard, Long and Nink, the pass-rush didn't decline anywhere near as much as run-defense. All three were veterans who could consistently set the edge. McClellin and Hightower, too.

With the front-7 unable to consistently stop the run, especially to the outside, there were consequences for the secondary, too. And that showed up dramatically in the Superbowl.
