I don't say this as an attack against you, but only because I'm genuinely curious: How were they supposed to do it? If they don't think he can play healthy this year, or it's true he's planning to retire, what is the acceptable way to move on from him?

Cutting him may allow him to keep any unamortized part of his bonus. He might have had to pay that back if he retired.
Regular season isn't where Jules was great. Good, yes. Great in January/February. A beast, in fact...Wes Welker though.
If he is planning to retire, let him announce it first or have a joint press conference.
If he is planning to play again, maybe let him post his goodbyes first.
Something like that.
