With all that cap space still, I wonder why they went with the budget option at DT signing Guy.

Hey, we all chipped in and got you a t-shirt.

Why not if you have the cap space?

Because you will quickly run out if you give everybody a huge contract and you will feel the pain in the future when you cant resign anybody.

They are very far away from "running out" or feeling any sort of financial pain.

And a cheap deal isn't always the better deal. They would have been much better off last year (and this year) signing Akeem Hicks than being cheap and signing Knighton who sucked and they got nothing out of and just wasted money.

Starters don't mean much in a DL rotation. They all need to be good.

Sure it does. When you have 2 quality starters, you're not going to go out and spend big money on a third. It doesn't make sense. That's what the poster implied.

You do want "all" to be good. But that doesn't mean all need to be paid like starters. Or that you spend money where you don't need to. You pay guys relative to what their role is. Branch and a Brown have earned their roles. You don't need to take any reps away from them by wasting money on a bigger name. Guy is a solid rotational piece. Keeps "all" of our guys "good," in roles well suited for them, and is great for the cap.

First off, DT isnt a real position of need to begin with. They gave Guy 5M a year. If you want every move to be a big 10M a year move then you wont have any cap space to bring back Butler or Cooks or any of these upcoming guys. We made some big moves, there has to be some intermediate and cheap ones too.

I'd rather just not have Guy at all then if they were trying to save money and went with another solid rookie like Valentine.

It's nice in theory, but who? Poe? At 10mil and injury concerns? I wanted Hankins, but he will likely get 8 himself, and he isn't providing much in the way of pass rush either.

Fairley was out there, but he's been around the block and has had some issues attached to him before.

Just not sure who was out there that was a clear step above who they got.

The more I read the more I think Hightower will be back here for a deal cheaper than we all think. It just seems he is not getting the money he thought. Butler will not get big bucks this year here one way or another IMO. I think they may bring him up to 7-8M but no more if that and could just make him play on 3.9M.

If that is the case they still have a good amount of cap room left and I am wondering who they spend it on. Especially when you factor in the money they project to save on Amendola one way or another.

I think Mangold would be a great get and it won't be too expensive due to his age and injury history. Maybe just 1 year 6M. Even with that they will still have a good amount left over I think.

Why not if you have the cap space?
Maybe the Patriots like to give themselves financial flexibility to capitalise on unforeseen opportunities or perhaps they'd like to rollover cap and improve future positions?

You've been making a fool of yourself this past week or so. You should, perhaps, take a few days off to get yourself right.

I'm still shocked they've even done what they've done, so far. Those were some big **** swinging moves.

I make a fool of myself quite a lot with many days off.....
