CBA Appeals Ruling: #Patriots can recover $2.5M bonus they paid Jonathan Fanene in '12. He made "inaccurate" medical disclosures in physical

On Jonathane Fanene: He lied during a pre-signing physical "failing to disclose his regular use and need for painkilling medication to play"
There's the tidbit that we never knew that pushed things into the Pats' favor. I always thought it was pretty iffy, but it makes a lot of sense now.

Edited to reflect other meaning of ambiguous tweet.

Finally some good news

Re: Patriots recover $2.5M from Fanene

That means an additional $2.5 mil in cap space this year, I believe.

Just in time to sign Welk.....never mind.

I can't believe they got that money back.

We're trading for Mike Wallace!

Re: Patriots recover $2.5M from Fanene

Rapoport says that the other 1/3 of Fanane's signing bonus was deferred, so it would appear to me that they would recover the full $3.85M against the cap even though they are only recovering $2.5M in real money.

$3.8 in cap sapce is far better than $2.5 mil. I was always good at math.

Wonderful, great timing.

Report:pats win CBA Appeals ruling

According to Rapoport : Pats can recover 2.5 million bonus paid to Fanene last year because he made inaccurate medical disclosures regarding pain medications..

I think this means they also get more cap space, but time will tell.

Re: Patriots recover $2.5M from Fanene

I don't know for sure, but it seems they'd get all the cap room back. Trying to confirm it, and hopefully the full story from Rapoport will point that out.

NEVER thought this would happen. Great cap news. The more I follow football, the less it seems I actually know. :(

I've never claimed the players were always right.

Very very interesting.

Thats a considerable amount of money. Money that can be spent on a more than decent FA.

Re: Report:pats win CBA Appeals ruling

who cares BB wont spend it on anybody that will provide any impact. we'll sign the usual group of over the hill types or jags.

Re: Report:pats win CBA Appeals ruling

Great news - should help ensure that the pass rush, secondary, and WR can all be addressed this offseason.

Well this got really messy:

What does this even mean? :lol2:

To use a courtroom analogy, I think this hearing was like a grand jury: the Patriots showed sufficient evidence to move to the actual "trial" phase.

Rapoport still calls this a "big win" for the Pats (and teams in general) over the NFLPA.
