I'm in Tampa but a September day game identifies the limits to the suffering I'll do for the team .
The last few years the Bucs (just like Miami) have asked the NFL to limit early season home games in order to boost attendance. If they do play at home in September they request a night game or a late kickoff. Fans were staying away rather than wilting away.
That's better than a 1:00 game though to be honest, not much. While fans are at least out of the sun at its highest point it is still really rough. Unlike northern climates the heat and humidity barely drop at all late in the day and early evening in September in central Florida.
Last year the Bucs first four home games were
week 3 (9/25) at 4:00 (loss),
week 4 (10/2) at 4:00 (loss),
week 8 (10/30) at 1:00 (loss), and
week 9 (11/3) at 8:30 (loss)
In 2015 Tampa's first four home games were
week 1 (9/13) at 4:30 (loss),
week 4 (10/4) at 1:00 (loss),
week 5 (10/11) at 1:00 (win), and
week 9 (11/8) at 4:00 (loss)
In 2014 their first four home games were
week 1 (9/7) at 4:30 (loss),
week 2 (9/14) at 4:00 (loss),
week 6 (10/12) at 1:00 (loss), and
week 8 (10/26) at 1:00 (loss)
That's just four September home games in three years, and ten September/October home games in three years. The game is more likely (hopefully) to occur later on in cooler (for Florida) weather - ie, perfect weather for someone visiting from New England.
