Patriots are in playoffs trouble after this loss

The Jets lost to the Raiders.... They can lose to ANYBODY

jets are 3-1 in the division and play the bills and fins at home. So they have an advantage right now even in tie breaker.

Jets remaining schedule

@Tenn (Loss)
Den (Win)
@SF (Win)
Buff (Potential Loss)
@Seattle (Win)
Miami (Win)

Jets finish 11-5 (Best case) more likely 12-4

So let's assume they lose 2 of the next 6, that would give them 5 AFC losses assuming these future losses are to (Buff or Mia / Tenn).

We already have 4 AFC losses and I can see one more coming to Pittsburgh

@Miami (Tough game, but a bounce-back W here)
Pitt (Loss)
@Sea (Win)
@Oak (Win)
Arz (Win - tough one, but a W)
@ Buff (If Buffalo is out of it, and we need it, this is a W)

This leaves us at 11-5 and tied with the Jets, both split and both have 5 AFC losses, the next tie-breaker would be common opponents and that's where I black out.

Most of us having been expecting 10-6 for awhile.

THE WEAK THREE (3-0)
Buffalo, Oakland, Seattle

THE SOLID THREE (1-2)
Miami, Pittsburgh, Arizona
Many of you seem to ignore Arizona. We don't match up well.

We need to win what we SHOULD win. We could go 11-5 and be almost a lock for the playoffs. 10-6 might get us in.

Personally, I think the playoff fight will a tough one with Miami, the jets, or both.

Maybe I'm just being pessimistic after last night's game, but the Jets look good for winning the division. Maybe they'll get suckered in a trap game, maybe not. But I'm not putting all my hopes for playoffs in thinking that they will lose enough games down the stretch for us to catch up.

Next week is going to decide a lot for us. If we can beat Miami, we have a very good shot at the playoffs, as they'll be a game (or two depending on how Oakland performs) behind us. If we lose, then we lose the tie breaker with them and have to hope they lose some games, despite their easy schedule, so we don't end up with a tie.

Fortunately, Indy and the Ravens have a worse schedule ahead than we do, so we might be able to hold them off if we lose to Miami. But if we lose to both Miami and the Steelers (or Arizona?), it is going to be really hard for us to make it into the playoffs.

10-6 should be good enough in most years, but I'm not sure it's going to be this year. Too many teams doing too well.

Going into this game I didn't feel like this was a do or die game, but now that we lost I feel like the pressure to win the next two games is tremendous and I dont know if our team can win these two games making the mental errors we made last night

Pats beat Miami...Jets lose to Titans...same place the team was in before the game...

the indy win at pitt now looms large now . favre played good today but i wish we had a better pass rush . for the jets, only tenn is hard game left , then denver, SF,SEA and both bills and fins at home.

With 1 win and 1 loss basically separating first from last, this division is hardly won and I think the Jets will have their hands full for the remainder of the schedule. There may be a cupcake or two left for them, but after last night and the way the media strokes Favre I think the Jets now have the bullseye on their heads and everyone will show to play against them. Tennessee is definitely a tough one, but I'd be willing to bet that Buffalo, Denver, and Miami could send the Jets for a a couple losses as well.

They still have a better division record....and will likely finish with a better division record with the Bills and Dolphins coming to the Meadowlands in December. Tough one for the Pats to lose.

We're 6-4. Let's say we lose to Pittsburgh we can still be 11-5 which is a LOCK to make the playoffs. Another loss and we're 10-6. Very likely to make the playoffs.

We're fine, we just need to go 4-2 the rest of the way.

Anyone look at the odds of where 9-7 might get us? Or is that out of the running? Going 4-2 the rest of the way is a tall order. Everyone but Oakland, Seattle and probably Buffalo will be playing for a playoff spot.

The Jets may be challenging for the division title, but dont discount the Dolphins. If you want to see an easy schedule, take a look at this one:

11 Nov 16 OAK @ MIA
12 Nov 23 NE @ MIA
13 Nov 30 MIA @ STL
14 Dec 07 MIA @ BUF
15 Dec 14 SF @ MIA
16 Dec 21 MIA @ KC
17 Dec 28 MIA @ NYJ

If they can pull off two of the divisional games, they will win this division.

I agree, it will be an uphill battle to make the playoffs even at 10-6

I don't expect the Patriots to beat Miami, remember they killed the Patriots in Foxboro. I also don't expect the Patriots to beat the Steelers...that is two losses right there, its gonna b a tough scrappy battle to make the playoffs.

Number one thing the patriots must do is stop making stupid mistakes. They cannot afford to have dumb penalties, bad snaps, random fumbles. The other thing they need to do is to kick field goals instead of go for it on 4th and 3.

I have no idea whether or not the Pats will be in the playoffs.
I know when Brady got injured I thought the season would be
a complete disaster. Cassel stunk out the joint in the preseason
and would do likewise in the regular season. Belichick had made
a major mistake keeping Cassel over Gutierrez.

Much to my surprise, Cassel has done a good job directing the
team. The offense has been modified a little to to fit Matt's talents
and the Pats don't score as many touchdowns but they have been
competitive in all but two games.

The Pats will have a chance to win the majority of their remaining
games provided they can hold their mistakes to a minimum. If they
continue to allow long kickoff returns, their chances will be greatly
diminished.

I look forward to watching a lot of nail biting games.

You can say that again. Unless we score 45 that's going to be a tough one. Our secondary vs that receiving corp and our general lack of a consistent pass rush.....

I think with already 4 AFC losses that's out of the running. We have to keep a close eye on The Clots - Steelers and Ravens. I don't think we have to worry about that train wreck San Diego in the West. I think Denver wins that division their schedule doesn't look too daunting. The Ravens have a date with Three Teams in the Tough NFC East that might be too much for them to overcome. Based on the rest of the Schedule if the Colts and Patriots run the table or go say 6-1 both Teams could be the Wild Cards.

If we lose to to Pitt and win the rest and the Jets lose either Mia or Buff plus one other to any team we win the div. From the point of view of winning the division Pitt is the least important game on our schedule (it is the only non-common game with the rest of the div other than the Colts). From the point of view of winning a wild card spot it is our most important.

I don't think 10-6 will do. 10-6 will send the Pats home at this point. There are too many other teams who would need to go 9-7, for that the Pats to make the playoffs at 10-6.

JETs: I see a possible 3 or 2 losses from the Titans, Broncos and Fins.
FINs: I see a possible 3 or 2 losses from the PATs, Bills and JETs.
BILLs: I see a possible 4 losses from the Browns, JEts, Miami and PATs.

PATs really really need to beat the fins
... to have a good probability of winning the Division.

I really think they can win out. The next two games will be very predictive
of the end result. IMO

This JETs game showed Cassel and Offense can put up the points against
a pretty good defense. Cassel in RZ needed to be established and I think
it was.

If the D gets some issues sorted out, we win against the Steelers. Our offense is ready and several guys improved even over the game last night. They have great D, but I think our O is up to the task.

Fix the D, we go on a hot streak. Don't fix it, we're toast.
