This was very informative -- and it was narrated by Matt Slater.
Not that any great secrets got revealed -- you wouldn't expect that from the Pats -- but we did hear from people who are mostly just names: Monti Ossenfort, Brian Smith, in particular. And they came across the way you'd expect them: well-trained, hard-nosed, smart.
Some things that I took away.
Though it wasn't surprising, the number one emphasis seemed to be on getting them all looking at things in the same way and saying the same things. They showed people trying to recruit UDFAs and they sounded like phone salespeople reading from a script.
I was slightly surprised that they didn't seem to be very quantitative -- discussions seemed more like "I think he'd be a good fit here" than "He rates 85th percentile here, 90th percentile there, overall ..." and there didn't seem to be any explicit role for self-scouting. I'd have thought they'd have a big review meeting every year to talk about how to get next year's projections better. It's possible that those things are going on but we don't see them, of course.
