OK, maybe I am missing something here but what is the fascination with Bodden? I don't watch any Lions games and needed to look him up on NFL.com. So again, what so great about a CB hwo was let go by the 0-16 Lions?

He was let go for salary reasons, not talent. Last offseason, he was part of the Shaun Rogers trade from Cleveland, and he previously had great success in Crennel's D (which will help him a lot for adapting to NE).

The potential is what is great. In 2007 he played on a high level. If you don't have to pay him top tier money, and he plays very well... wouldn't this be an awesome pick up?

I really don't think you can blame everything on Ellis Hobbs. He certainly is a definite playmaker, who can play the game. Remember his outstanding knockdowns in the AFCCG against Indy when we lost. He was on point. I think this move was brought in to promote depth and the ability to battle in camp. I'm not sure signing Leigh Bodden to a 1 yr deal necessarily means that Ellis Hobbs is done, or anything close.

He will get a big deal next yr, around 8 mill/ per yr--you can take that to the bank. We are probably in the big picture, getting ready for his departure next yr, and providing some competition. There have been times where Hobbs has played lights out, and there are still some things for him to improve. I don't condone blaming Hobbs for the poor 3rd down ratio, or even for occasionally giving up a big play. He'll still be a starter IMO

I disagree somewhat.. I really don't think Ellis is a starting CB. I think he ian ideal nickleback. Think Ricky Manning Jr.

He has more value than Jr. imo... sort of similar size wise though.

I have to comment on some of the crazy comments about Hobbs ability to cover, cutting Hobbs....etc.

You are all delusional.

Hobbs is not the best CB in the league by far and he is best suited to a #2 or #3 CB for sure, but, he is solid and has been very good on ST's. He will draw lots of interest next year and will probably be gone based on the salary he will be offered.

The biggest issue he has had is pass interference penalties and a lot of them have been very touchy feely types that people on this board were quick to point out in the post game *****ing fests we have around here. I guarantee you BB will try to re-sign Hobbs if he can.

Let me all remind you of another player that everybody was jumping on about 5 years ago due to numerous fumbles and drops, along with too much dancing......Kevin Faulk.....anybody remember this. What do we all think of him now? Point being is Hobbs is still early in his career and has show guts and the ability to play. We will miss him if he goes.

What I was thinking was how Carolina used him. Hewas strictly a nickle and he played center field. He was too small to be a consistently big hitter, and he had many of the same coverage issues that Ellis has, but he made the most of what he had. It wasn't until he went to the Bears that he got exposed.

Ellis gives up too many plays, he really is a liability as a staring corner, but put him on the third reciever and he should be OK.

I'll gladly take Hobbs as a #2 or nickel corner as he may well be now with the Bodden acquisition. I am just doubtful that BB will pony up big cash for Hobbs when he becomes a free agent. He signed 2 CBs in the offseason for a reason - the Pats secondary was putrid in 2008. I think that I've mentioned the stats in other posts. Anyways the Pats secondary is much improved and it's a relief that we won't have to force Hobbs round peg into a square hole, number 1 cb position this year.

Sweet. Now I really like the Springs signing. Adding Taylor for some pass rush would really make this a nice offseason.

Granted our secondary could have been better last year, no doubt, but did you leave out the ill effects of having such a poor pass rush on purpose or as an oversight? -not being intentionally critical, just wondering what your take is on that subject?

The pass rush was bad as well. That's part of why we let Vrabel go, salary was the other part. If we don't sign JT to replace Vrabel, we'll target an OLB like Barwn in the draft to add some juice to that aspect of the defense.

Come on, what did I write that was wrong? His dance sucks, and he does it when he shouldn't be dancing. The Refs do not like the way he plays, or maybe his play draws penalities, but for whatever reason he has been called with some of the worst PI calls in the past couple of years. He is a below average starting CB, as a matter of fact there are only a couple of CB I wouldn't take over him as a number 1, but as a nickle he has the chance to be outstanding.

I am sorry, everytime I see Ellis chasing a guy down from behind I want to scream. If it only happened once that would be one thing, but we always seem to be looking at his number as he is chasing another 20+ yard reception down down the field, and if we know one thing about Belichick, he doesn't let those types of coverage mistakes linger, which means that Ellis was the best he had. That isn't saying a whole lot when his main competition was Deltha O'Neil.

One more thing, what's with all the man love for Ellis? Ellis, is that you? God of wrath, how about target of coaches wrath?

I said he could be a good nickleback, that is better than some of the things I called him during the season last year. He is just OK, maybe a little more than OK, but as a #1 or #2 he just sucks.

This forum is to post. And I agree, only a Jets fan would suck up to Ellis like you do.
