Patriots 9/3 53-man roster cuts thread

Led all tight ends in receptions in 2014, with Cutler throwing to him. Graham is soft as butter, can't block, same with Olsen. Has always been in top 10 in receptions last several years. So yeah, I think there's a case to be made top 5, but that's subjective, so I can concede top 10

That whole "with QB X throwing to him" argument is something many believe but in reality bad QBs such as Cutler, Stafford, etc. throw for a ton of yards and their receivers get targets that good QBs such as Brady would never give them.

Of that list, only Gronk, Reed, Walker (although questionable), Olsen, Graham, Witten, and Gates are at minimum, equal to Bennett. The truth lies somewhere in the middle of top 5 and top 15. The rest are developing or media darlings.
Kelce has been in the league 2 years and produced at least 67 catches and 862 yards in both of them, Bennett has done that 1 time in 8 seasons on a 5-11 team. Ertz is also very productive.

Cecil Shorts Part 3 will be on this team opening night, book it

Blunt?

White?

And Mitchell, Derby & Foster haven't played even one down of regular-season football yet.

Typical. You can't be bothered to answer what was asked of you because you know you were talking out your rear end..

Blew AZ off the field that year and AZ went to the SB.

And got embarrassed blown out at home by the steelers. No way Matt Mediocre Cassel would have won a way to win in Pittsburgh in the playoffs

It is now after 12 noon on Sunday. Let the waiver signings begin!

I was at that game. It was 35-degrees and POURING out. They played in muck and mud against an aggressive Defense.

I would favor Pitt in a rematch, sure, but that game was just a mess.

Steelers were the one team that was probably better. IIRC, the Pats won out after that game.

Kelce may be the second best TE in the NFL.

Reiss just tweeted that Grugier-Hill was claimed by the Eagles. That sucks.... I knew he wouldn't make it through waivers.

I'm not as high on the all-round games of both of these players as others are.

Do you really believe that Bennett is a top 5 TE? Let's take a look at that theory.

1. Gronkowski
2. Reed
3. Walker
4. Olsen
5. Graham
6. Eifert
7. Witten
8. Barnidge
9. Kelce
10. Ertz
11. Gates
12. Fleener
13. Thomas

Tell me on this list who is Bennett better than and then tell me why? Bennett is a top 15 TE, suggesting he is a top 5 is foolish.

Graham, Eifert, Ertz, Fleener can't block so they're immediately disqualified. Witten, Gronk, Bennett are the only ones who I know can block.

I've heard some people say Walker, Kelce, Olsen can block. But need evidence.

Can Gates block? He has a lot of years to learn, so maybe yes?

Does anyone know anything about Reed or Barnidge?

Honestly if that's the top 15 TE list. Derby can make it on that list too despite his sub par blocking.

I just wish we had more upside at WR. Mitchell is the only guy with upside and we don't know yet how he will work out. Hogan and Amendola are what they are, dependable but not game changers. Edelman is the one stud we have but he is highly injury prone these days and on the wrong side of 30.

I hope we make a move at WR and get a potential X or Outside WR. Someone that can open up options underneath. Mitchell could be that guy I'm hoping he is but it would help to bring in one more good young guy

With all due respect, I agree on those boys being on the wrong side of 30 and more fragile etc. but I disagree on your other points.
Firstly, Hogan and Amendola are far more than dependable. I don't need to list off Dola's clutch service here in New England and I believe Hogan has only scratched the surface of what he can be as a player.....especially with TB12 under center.
And, although it would be nice for us to have a shiny X receiver that can go up and "get 'em" down the sideline or beat a safety deep, it is not imperative to have such low percentage toys. Belichick is a contrarian because it makes strategic and economic sense to be that way. There are only so many catches to be had per game. We have 4 quality wide receivers, we have 4 quality TE's (#1 &#2 are potentially dominant), and we have running backs that can split out wide as well as catch out of the backfield.
We are insanely versatile in what kind of offense we run without having to substitute personnel! Combine that with our propensity for hurry up and no huddle...... ya, good luck defending that!!!

Do you really think we still MUST have that X receiver? I really don't.....unless that turns out to be Hogan...or Mitchell!!
Go Pats & F&%* Goodell!!
Actually, F*#@ em all!!

The offense was flying Cassell looked good I disagree without hitting the tab

Butler wasn't butler yet last training camp. He was Udfa that played a handful of snaps all year them made a great play to seal SB win. At this point last year no one knew of he could be a #1 corner.
I was saying it was really dumb of people to act like Roberts was going to be a starter/contributor after a good Training camp.

He's injured IR more than likely.
BB is stashing him when Logan Walks next season.
Kind of cold to keep stashing the kid
they aren't stashing a mediocre UDFA to be a contributor next year

younger doesn't mean better and everyone wants good upside at WR

Man some people are just in denial. No way a Matt cassell led team would have beaten Pittsburgh in 2008 playoffs. Steelers D would have utterly destroyed Cassell much like they did in foxboro without much effort.

Pats go on a little roll where Matt cassell beats up on 4 bad teams and the Arizona Cardinals and some people actually think they could have taken down the Super Bowl champion steelers?

There's a reason cassell missed the playoffs that year. He beat the bad teams and got his butt whipped by all the afc playoff teams. Remember that San Diego game? geez that was bad

Now tom Brady that's a different story. Brady owns the steelers and has proven he can dominate some of the best steeler teams of the decade.
