I don't think that Belichick sees WR as a crisis position.

I suspect that Belichick
1) will draft a WR in the 3rd round
2) will keep Edelman
3) will keep Sanu (maybe even extending him to rescue the cap hit, with no additional cash)

BASE CASE
that gives us Edelman, Sanu, Harry, draftee, Byrd, Meyers

In addition, Belichick might add a late draftee and/or UDFA. Belichick is also likely to add WR's in during camp. And yes, he could use a 2021 pick to trade for a WR during the pre-season or even later.

Agreed, it really depends on what he sees in Meyers and, to some extent, if Sanu is worth $6.5M. We can get a WR with good upside in the late third this year, that should be enough with Harry and Meyers for a young group going forward.

I'd also throw Gunner into that group. He's raw, but I think he has potential.

I wouldn't be surprised if we added a mid round pick on a wide reciever, especially one with a lot of speed.

As much as I think the Pats should do a solid and trade or even release Edelman, the next QB needs a WR who knows the scheme like the back of their hand.

Because this class is one of the deepest in a long time, it will be very disappointing if they don't draft one by the 4 round. Sanu 8.1 can not be counted on as the #2 or even #3. Jet sweep Harry needs to beat him out.

As I berated Harry on here all season last year, he needs to take off his diapers and become the #1 WR sometime next year.

And 27 yr old Damiere Byrd who had 32 receptions in 2019...good enough for wr3 / wr4 in 2020.

I think they'll bring in additional cast offs like last year and hope that one of them is able to stick and provide some depth and compete with Meyers & Gunner. (maybe they bring Hogan back) Assume they will also select at least one WR in the draft.

Harry - takes big step forward
Edelman - 100/1000 year
Sanu - restructures - 50/600
4, 5, 6 up for grabs

WR1 Edelman
WR2 Harry (hopefully he can move up one rank as the season progresses)
WR3 Meyers
“The rest” - Sanu can stick if he takes a pay cut and shows he’s worth keeping. I still like him. Beyond him it’s a battle between Gunner, Byrd and whoever gets drafted. Maybe more than one sticks if they want one to be the PR.

I think if there was ever a year to double dip at WR it’s this year:

a) very deep WR draft
b) we have lots of picks
c) Edelman is near the end
d) Harry and Meyers may not be the players we all hoped they’d be

And 27 yr old Damiere Byrd who had 32 receptions in 2019...good enough for wr3 / wr4 in 2020.

ty
I did forget Byrd

Out on a limb here but I would like to see Claypool as a pseudo TE/WR selected.....I have only limited access to college play and have to believe what media/other posters say....but worth a pick

I'm looking forward to see, what an easier to comprehend playbook and a quarterback willing to throw to everybody can bring to the offense. So I'm fine with what we have plus 2 draftees/veterans.

Edelman is at the end of his road but still the most proven amongst WRs. The key factor is Harry because expectations about him are very high - he has to stay healthy and step up. Meyers is a bit enigmatic to me. He was outstanding playing with Stidham in preseason games and suddenly disappeared. IDK it was a matter of unexperience or not being in a Brady's circle of trust. I hopefully think he will be productive work Stidham.
Let's see what Sanu can do being at the beginning of the season with the team. I believe he can be our legit wr 3/4.
I dream about drafting some speedsters like Reagor or Hamler but I doubt BB will sacrifice our first round for another WR. The more probable scenario like many of you say is to grab someone like Bowden,Van Jefferson or KJ Hill later.

Whoever the WR's are when the season begins they all will be much better with at least one quality TE who can divert some of the coverage schemes from them..

Trautmen? Kmet? + a NFL June cut.. there does not seem to be a lot of TE talent out there currently.

1 - Edelman is the best WR the Pats have right now. Hopefully he does his job, but I suspect that we will see more Tomsick out of him. Trading him is jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire, but if a team made the Pats an offer that they could not ignore, take the draft pick and run. Its not like Stidham has a favorite guy and the Pats arent winning the Super Bowl this season anyway.

2 - Sanu isnt going anywhere. He cost the NEP 2020 2nd round pick that the Pats could really use right now.

I would like to see the Pats be bold and trade up into the 2nd round to take a Stud WR, but that will never happen. The Pats should draft at least 2 WRs and 1 has to stick as a core player.

3 - Harry reminds me more of a TE. Physical, big body, he seems powerful after the catch like Dan Graham was. I would have to believe that Harry is a good blocker. Anxious to see something and not more excuses.

4 - ________________ 2020 draft pick. Can step in and play right now with a promising future.

Those 4 WRs are here for sure unless another team wants Edelman more than NE.

Byrd, Meyers, Gunner, 2020 draft WR # 2 compete for roster spots.

we need someone who can stretch the filed, that will create some space for the others. We had that with Gronk...so either a WR or TE that the defense needs to take note of would be great

I would note that your expectations at WR are very reasonable, and requires few resources (a 3rd and maybe a 6th). Of course, a much more difficult question mark is TE (and QB, but that is another discussion).
========
As an aside, it would be costly to move up into the 2nd, but moving up in the 3rd is much more doable and could be a serious option.

I don’t think Gunner has that much potential....maybe slot....didn’t care for him as a punt/kick returner as he made a lot of poor decisions....I wouldn’t be surprised if he was cut after TC....a lot depends on draft /FA obviously!!! Can’t question his heart....maybe BB will find a way to use him! Go Pats!

my thoughts exactly, old time ends 1 lg rec 2 blocker. i see wr aiyuk and claypool te keene vt
