The Saints are in the worst cap situation in the league and need to free up space. Olave is entering the final year of his rookie contract and the Saints have until May 1st to decide if they want to exercise his fifth year option (set at $15.1 million for 2026). He’s had five documented concussions, including one at Ohio State in 2020 and at least one in each of his three seasons as a pro (one in 2022, one in 2023, and two within weeks of each other in 2024). His health is in question and he’s about to be much more expensive than the Saints may be able to afford. It would be more cost effective for the Saints to trade him for cap relief (as minimal as it would be for 2025, it’s more for not paying 2026 and beyond) and draft picks, and simply draft a new WR who will cost less and who they won’t have to worry about breaking the bank for for another 4-5 years.

The only thing is Saints management have deluded themselves into believing they are still in a contention window and refuse to rebuild, when realistically their window shut down when Brees retired after the 2020 season. They also foolishly extended Kamara despite him going into his age 30 season, which is ancient in RB years. Maybe they deal Olave, maybe they extend him. They’re a poorly run organization, so all possibilities are in play.

There was some talk about going after Olave here a few weeks ago, but I wouldn’t touch him. Those concussions are going to end his career early.

I love Golden too but Bond is a very similar Wide Receiver we can have outside the First. Also don't sleep on Tez Johnson either very slight but extremely good. This is sneaky Decent WR Draft.
I wouldn't take Tez Johnson any earlier than the 6th Round (although he'll surely be gone by then). Despite what his anticipated speed will be, he's just too slight of build.

That's you he's going to do everything so good that some Team is going to tempted in the Third. He's kinda like Tank Dell very good but slight: don't ask them to Block on the next level.

The Pat's came away with 1 player picking 3rd in the 2024 draft. Maybe Milton will be worth something, but who knows.

Not taking the best LT at 4 would be a huge screw up, but go ahead and help other teams get better like the Chargers last draft. The value of good OTs has increased with so few available and so many teams needing to find one.

This is what Bruschi was talking about.

Stafford controlling things until his situation is settled?
Giants have to get a QB, right. I do not believe they have a QB under contract at this time.
Stafford to the Giants is plausible.
Rodgers to the Giants is not plausible.
Neither is Cousins (injury concerns)
Darnold back to NYC? doubtful
Russ? Fields? Jacoby?
I can't see Ward or Sanders getting past the Giants at #3.

you make a great point for the Pats 1000% staying clear of Olave

why would Kellen Moores first order of business would be to trade their top wide out?
Because despite every issue we had getting WR the last 6 years, this fanbase still thinks every team in this league is itching to give theirs to us.

The Raiders at 6, Jets at 7, Saints at 9, and potentially the Colts at 14 are all possible candidates to be jockeying against one another. I would be surprised if Cam Ward doesn't go to the Titans at 1. Depending on what's available to NE at 4, they may be able to generate some bidding to get one team to trade up and secure Sanders before someone else does.
Over on Reddit, the Saints fans I've seen are pretty much unanimously saying trading up would be a disaster for them.

Conversely, a team may trade up into the top 3 picks ahead of NE to take Sanders - but that means that just pushes a non-QB prospect down (like, for instance, Travis Hunter), which the Pats can then take that player if they love him, or maybe get someone else to trade up for that player.

****....if only Mayo didn't win in week 18....grrrr....

#4 and godchaux for #6 and crosby

If we were talking about one of the top 4 then I'd have to strongly disagree with you. After that, most "experts" believe that talent wise, the next 20-24 players are cut from aprox. the same cut of athletic cloth. You know the group that we drafted from during the first 2 decades of this century.

However when you are bad enough to draft in the top 4 then you are bad indeed. Your roster is full of wholes and depth up and down the list and ANY good player is not one you can pass up. When you have a shot to grab an athletic unicorn or perennial all pro you cannot afford to miss, though miss do they constantly do.

I have seen too many reviews on Campbell to be swayed by the rampant need of a LT to get hitched to the first 6'6 330lb guy who waives as sweet smile at me. NOTHING in Will Campbell's resume has screamed of a generational player or this year's Jo Alt. I am happy there are a dozen or so good looking ones a few of whom I will be thrilled to draft in rounds 2-4 AND of course, a lot will depend how the FA period will end up months before the draft.

BTW- Just a note of warning. I cannot help but carry this thought in the back of my mind. I know everyone HERE knows about our OL needs. However because of Phillies success and KC's failure and I was wondering how much even MORE exepensive is it going t o get on the real time OL FA martket this year. Almsost call it a Philly Tax, if you will
