Defense:

4 INT's. Anytime a defense gets 4 INTs in one game it's a big deal. Ninkovich, whom I said shouldnt even be the league last week, must've saw my thread and took it to heart lol . Also had a sack and a couple good pressures. Ninkovich played the game of his life....

So did Chung. 2 blocked kicks in one game. That's unheard of. Then he finished it with a pick-6. He looks like the best young player on our defense. I really like the energy and leadership he brings out there. I knew this kid would be a stud. He's a hard worker with a great attitude and alot of experience (started since age 17 at Oregan I believe)

People are quick to say it was ALL special teams but that isn't true. Our defense stopped Miami dead in their tracks which forced them to Punt. That led to the block by Chung.

McCourtey also had a key 3rd down stop that had BB fired up and giving high fives lol.

There was also another 3 and out in the first quarter by our D.

Arrington hasn't been picked on like Butler and Wilhite. The jury's still out but he's looked decent so far.

Cunningham hasn't had any big sacks yet, but he's the one guy that consistently gets pressure and forces passes. He's turning out a lot better than I thought he would and will be a Starter on our Defense for many years. You can already see the potential there, and he's a hard worker that will keep getting better.

Mayo looks to be back to his DROY form. An absolute tackling machine.

Special Teams:

Credit BB for drafting these guys. He took a mid-round flyer on Brandon Tate who dropped in the draft due to his injury. He was the best returner in college, and is looking like a major threat in the return game every time he touches the ball. He might not be Devin Hester in the return game, but he's not far behind, and he's probably a way better WR than Hester ever will be.

On the other side, I had to laugh when Tate returned it and then Gostkowski kept booting kicks for Touchbacks. Another ST player drafted by BB that has paid dividends. He wasn't even giving Miami a chance to return anything.

Chung was also known as a ST demon at Oregan, he blocked a lot of kicks in college too.

Great to finally see it come together with a dominating performance by our Defense. We're really a year of experience, and a pass rusher away from being a Top notch Defense. Belicheck also had them ready for those underneath routes that they kept cutting off and getting INTs on.

One more thing I have to mention is BB's great coaching ADJUSTMENTS since he gets a lot of flack for it recently.

When he saw Cameron Wake causing all sorts of problems, he got the offense to start running straight at him. Wake is weak at setting the edge as he's somewhat undersized. If you watched closely, by the end of one of our long rushing drives, Wake looked absolutely gassed due to OLinemen pushing him around. Great player, but BB took him away with the rushing attack.

You may not know it but you were Fired in another thread.

For the ST play, I don't think you can discount BB cutting some of the former aces likes Alexander and Slater. At the time, they seemed to be somewhat strange moves.

Slater is still on the team, isnt he? He isnt returning, but I'm Pretty sure he's still the gunner.

Now BBs drafting is awesome and the next loss will mean he sucks at drafting again .....

the youngsters looked good tonight but they will have more games this year where we will pull our hair out,it's all of the ups and downs of the growing process which I emphatically express this year.

Well he drafted alot of busts in 2 crucial years. Maroney, Chad Jackson, Dave Thomas (did nothing in our system), and then the year with Wheatley, Crable, and Wilhite. Those 2 bust years have caused us a lot of problems, and Chad Jackson busting even forced us to trade away picks the year after to pick up Welker and Moss, which lost us some high picks that we couldve used on defense if CJack had shown something in his 1st year.

I think the last 2 draft years are ultimately what the future of our team will be. We have a nice core with Chung, Cunningham, McCourtey, Brace, Spikes, Butler... and ofcourse Mayo from the year before. It's crazy when you think about it. Some teams (*ahem*Detroit) have had top picks for the 10 years and can't make a good offense or defense, and we've almost rebuilt our entire Defense in just a few years while still being competitive.

and FTR - I didnt say BB drafting was awesome. I disagree with a lot of his picks. I just said his drafting towards Special Teams finally paid off

If you feel like criticizing, at least find the things that are rip worthy.
I get it that Maroney was hated, but you cant call the guy a BUST when he split carries and prodcued equally to Dillon as a rookie and was the teams #1 rusher in his 2 other healthy seasons. Dave Thomas was a 3rd round pick, I dont think there is such a thing a bust as the 90-something pick. Same with Crable, who has been injured, and is now getting a chance to play. And Wilhite was a 4th rounder who is 'starting' at nickel back and actually playing pretty well this year.

Ohhh let's not even get into this. Those 2 drafts would be complete wastes if it weren't for Mayo.

Maroney didnt do anything that a 5th rounder or UDFA couldnt do on our team. The fact that we traded him away before his rookie contract expired says it all. And dont forget 2nd rd busts Chad Jackson and Terrance Wheatley.

another point of interest - Our Defense held a very Hungry Brandon Marshall to 5 catches for 50 yards.

Let's not discount Floyd Reese's input here. He's been invaluable.

The Patriots would have made those moves no matter what happened with Jackson.

Randy Moss for a fourth-rounder? Definitely worth the risk, regardless of who else you have.

Stealing Wes Welker from a divisional rival, and getting him for five years, for a second-rounder? The only question was if he would be good or awesome, and I'd say he's surpassed any reasonable expectations.

Only gripe with this is that Arrington couldn't make a tackle to save his life in the first half, he got picked on alot.

FYPFY.

Caserio has been just as important, if not more so, than Reese in terms of scouting/drafting.

Chad Jackson did show something in his first year, but then he tore his ACL. Them's the breaks; I'm not going to hold it against Belichick that he couldn't see into the future and know that a guy was going to tear his ACL and lose a lot of the athleticism that made him a 2nd rounder in the first place.
