Our Biggest Threat

Take a poll of the players on the field in a Pats-Raiders playoff game and 90% won't even know what games you are referring to.

NFL history is for fans.

"All" it amounted to was Jack Tatum paralyzed Darryl Stingley for life, had him thinking at one point of ending it all. All the Raiders visited him in the hospital, including John Madden except Tatum. But Tatum bragged about being a hitter in his book afterwards. Still just another hit? Already had a member tell me this was too vulgar to mention. I could mention maybe 5-6 other things about the Raiders of that era along those lines, but to me they were dirtier than the Ravens today.

Threat Horizon...
1) Patriots injuries
2) Bogus out of the blue ref calls like Face guarding back in 2006 playoffs
3) Another NYJFL physics & logic defying scandal made up derailing our playoff run
4) Some lucky as **** team playing out of their minds against us

I have no clue what the Giants injury situation might be. But if they're lucky all season long in this regard, they have real play-makers on both sides of the ball... and then once they're in the playoffs, how can you overlook them. Or how can WE overlook them.

As to Point 4, at least this is not the NBA with its 3 pointer. A poor shooting guard on Denver scored 24 points in the first quarter against the Celts at the Garden on Sunday, outscoring the whole Celtic team.

Given that we now have such high expectations, I think we have to be careful and insist on closing games out early--truly closing them out. To the point that phantom calls and hail mary passes are beside the point. And let's let Joe G take over in 4th quarters when games are truly out of reach---Brady's been hit hard in these situations too many times already.

I agree they aren't a threat to win the division, but it is possible both wild card spots could come from the AFC West. So if Denver falters, SD could slide into that last spot and be a very dangerous wild card team.

SD has winnable games against the Dolphins, Texans, Browns, and Bucs. If they're serious they should win all 4 of those games. I'm putting them down for a loss at Carolina. Home against the Raiders to me will be their true litmus test, or at the very least a fireworks display. (It's worth noting they lost by a FG to the Raiders on the road earlier in the year.)

They have KC at home, which could potentially be the playoffs on the line for both teams at the end of the season. At the end of it all, I could see them finishing at 9-7, which the way the rest of the AFC is playing, could easily secure them the #6.

I don't see how SD can keep playing on that level with the amount of injuries they had this year. I think the wheels will come off at some point in the next few games... If all parts are giving their A game a team can compensate for missing players at least for some time but I really don't see them being able to do this for 8 more games. They used up their entire margin of error with those stupendous early losses..
