Why wasn't he taking them from Jake the Latest Fake Andrews...?
hmmm
Perhaps one of these won't make the 53.

Andrews, Mafi, Leverett
=======================
IOL LOCKS: Sow, Andrews, Robinson

How many more IOL's will we carry on the 53? two or three?

Perhaps Andrews will have the Ferenz roster spot: dedicated Backup OC, often on the Practice Squad. This works if both Mafi and Leverett can backup at C.

To be fair BB kept, or tried to keep many players on his terms. Sometimes the player left simply because the got an offer that exceeded the value alloted by the team. The bigger change for the better is how the players are being resigned. No contentious hardlines and the players openly discussing contract negotiations.
He became HC and cut Ben Coates, Shawn Jefferson, Bruce Armstrong, Chris Slade, David Megget I believe, Jettisoned Terry Glenn. And then cut Milloy vs keeping him with Harrison. Not to mention Drew Bledsoe even though that was 100 percent the right decision but I was a huge Bledsoe fan. He let Ty Law walk.
Ty should of never had another jersey.

Coates posted 370 yards his last season in NE, he played one more with the Ravens and posted 84 receiving yards... but he did win his ring. He was toast.

Shawn Jefferson was 31 in 2000, Bruce Armstrong was 35 in 2000, Chris Slade was 29 in 2000 but only posted 4 sacks as a sack specialist... all these guys retired or were out of the league within a year or so... they were toast.

In 1998, Meggett was arrested in Toronto after authorities alleged that he assaulted an escort worker after a three-way sexual encounter. Following this incident, the Patriots promptly released him per their zero-tolerance policy for violence against women enacted after the fallout from their selection of Christian Peter two years earlier. According to a 2014 report in SB Nation, the public reaction to this incident led other teams to look at Meggett's history with women, and was a reason why his number was never called by another NFL team after the Jets opted against re-signing him.

Milloy was a good player but Rodney was better and played on a more team friendly deal. They saved a lot of cap space and upgraded the position.

Ty Law was let go after 2004 when he hit 31 years old, only managed 7 games due to injury and the team won a Super Bowl anyway. He had one of the biggest cap hits in the league in 2005 among defenders. He only played one more really productive Pro Bowl level season the very next year then fell off.

It doesn't matter who the coach is... age is undefeated and the NFL has a salary cap.

You can't hang onto players who have lost it because you're sentimental.

Dude... it's OTA's.

There's no hitting, barely any contact.

This is not football.

JuJu looks more confident and smooth than last year, but he's still super slow. I get that this is practice, but Polk & Baker have so much more life in their routes.
Juju looked as fast as the two kids in tweets from the last OTA's practice. Let's see how it looks in full contact.

Interesting that Jake Andrews doesn't seem to be taking snaps at Center.
Interesting that Layden Robinson, as well as MAFI, are taking snaps at Center.
It seems the new coaches are just playing around with lineups and seeing what they all have in their tool chest.

Nothing really matters, especially on the line until pads come on and hitting begins.

OK, what is your point? Of course, as in the minicamps, many possibilities are being tried. But make no mistake, it may be important that Mafi has gotten lots and lots of minicamp reps as a center.

I merely set out what I think is the status quo.

DO YOU DISAGREE
that Sow, Andrews and Robinson are locks?

DO YOU DISAGREE
that Jake, Mafi and Leverett are likely fighting for 2-3 roster spots,

with the possibility than someone will beat them out of those positions?

Mayes going to make it very difficult for Mayo not to start him week 1 if Maye keeps practicing/playing like this.

did not Every coach is forced to make hard decisions about who to keep on the roster, especially as they age.
I was referring to the retain part of the Draft, Develop, Retain philosophy. The most important part of retain is signing drafted and developed players to contracts through their most productive years, primarily the second contract. Retaining mercenaries and roster rebuilds don't really apply, By that criteria jettisoning Mac Jones and Trent Brown should be listed as violations of the retain policy. I stand by the statement that BB signed all the important players drafted and developed by the team; Wilfork, Mankins, Gronk, the QB, etc. to their second and third+ contracts. The problem is that he did it in a way that created animosity where this group is doing it in a less contentious way.

Because Maye and Robinson came in together as rookies... where do you come up with these nonsensical names?
Hold on,man. Nobody on this esteemed forum consistently comes up with better nicknames than the cap'n.
He has made me laugh out loud more than anyone over the years.
Most of the chronic complainers year after year are just annoying. Not captain stone. He's funny but I know he's also a passionate fan. But he's no ass- kisser.
Like him I also grew up in Beantown(JP) and he just reminds me of so many friends and relatives.
Dude's an icon here.
I disagree with him a lot but he's one of my favorite posters. He's entertaining.
That has big value.

Total guess on my part, something like:

LT (3) – Caedan Wallace, Chukwuma Okorafor, Calvin Anderson, Zuri Henry (PS),
LG (2) – Antonio Mafi, Layden Robinson, Cole Strange (I),
C (2) – David Andrews, Jake Andrews, Charles Turner (PS),
RG (1) – Sidy Sow,
RT (1) – Michael Onwenu, Tyrone Wheatley (PS),

You can move them around all you want, but David Andrews is likely your starting center having just extended him a year. They're definitely auditioning for his backup now though. If you can play center you can also play guard, and having two guys on the interior who can do both is better than one with David's age, wear and tear.

Jake and Layden are the next guys up, both can potentially also play guard. I put Jake ahead due to experience, he also had a lot of functional strength leaving college along with good athleticism. He was strong... but his arms aren't long and Wolf seems obsessed with wingspan, that could be a problem except at center.

If I knew Robinson could bench it close to thirty times I'd say Andrews/Robinson were close to identical prospects but Robinson was a shade better because of his wings. We don't know, Layden might be weak and better next season after a year in the strength and conditioning program.

Onwenu can play wherever he wants as long as it's on the right side of the line, he can also play nose tackle on defense in a pinch... he just got paid. He was a two way player in college and superior at both. I'd use him 2-3 plays a game, especially short downs and on the goal line.

By season's end Sow was playing great, he's big, athletic and strong. Sow could possibly play tackle but they probably like him right where he is next to Onwenu. That's a lot of beef and road paving blocks on one side. They played well together in a bad situation.

Mafi is massive and puts pancakes on tape, if his mental ever catches up too his physical he can play guard in the NFL. Jake Andrews much like Mafi struggled as a rookie and started showing flashes at the end of last season. There's still some unknown there, but you could say that about all young players who aren't phenoms. An overwhelming number of rookies have growing pains.

I just disagree they're making cutdowns at OTA's, guys running around in shorts. Even the guys they brought in who I potentially have on their practice squad have talent. I think Zuri Henry is darkhorse, he is similar to Wallace. Both are straight ahead fast, have really wide wingspans. Zuri had good not great strength but at least he lifted. His agility drills were terrible just like Wallace's were... but both have tools.

Calvin Anderson is a real X factor as a swing tackle or potential starter, can he come back from malaria? If so he has unique athleticism and strength, he could probably play 5 out of five positions along the line... center being the only one we don't know about.

Hopefully Cole Strange returns, they still view him as a starter and should if healthy.

Okorafor is my surprise to cut in preseason, or he could end up starting. The run game will suffer, but he doesn't give up a lot of sacks. Now that Trent Brown is gone, Okorafor has the biggest wingspan on the team and has decent tackle size... he's just not much of an athlete. Michael Jordan and Leverett aren't good athletes, but they play snaps also.

Charles Turner is weak and would benefit from a year in the program, but he's got a massive wingspan for a center... again, a theme with all these Wolf guys. He's also got good agility and might make the practice squad.

Can't disagree at all, just think he's wrong now and again... like the rest of us.

This new front office keeping players is weird.
I hated Bill when he jettisoned my favorite players.
BB acquired / developed talent that would be offered outlandish contracts elsewhere due to their success. Most of the players who moved on never reached HoF heights and many returned to contribute to more NE winning.

Can’t say that I hated all the winning, nor the decisions that lead to the winning.
