When we lost to Jets and Broncos early this season, some Pats fans said we lost because these "inferior" foes were playing their "superbowl". It is as if losing to these teams were "beneth" us. After the beatdown in New Orleans, some people here said Saints need to beat Pats to validate they are a good team.

Now looking back at the teams that "needed" validation from the Patriots (Jets, Colts, Saints), they are playing in Championship games. And we are sitting home.

For this fan, a little humility and a little less arrogance from the fan base is a good thing.

How is it the Patriots fault that other sides still view them as a benchmark team? Two of those sides made it publicly known the Patriots were a litmus test for them and it's widely accepted that Pats-Colts is a nation stopper.

Strange POV.

Saints/Brees confirmed that they did not consider themselves elite until they beat the Patriots. It was in the post-game interview IIRC.

All those teams got better defensive schemes and have some pass rushers.

I would too if my team had run over the decade's biggest dynasty the way they did.

It is the patriots who were playing their superbowl against the colts and the saints. And many here posted at the time how important these games were to the patriots.

That is the first step, isn't it?
