31 mill guaranteed. I am not a Romo fan and think he is a decent QB but don't see the "huge" upside many see. I don't ever see him being a "franchise" QB personally. That being said he is considered to BE an upper tier QB by many and by JJ and since he seems to know more about football since he actually owns a team and is fronting the money I will say he must know more than me.

Funny though for those that don't think the rookie salary structure is out of wack...do you just realize that Jamarcus Russell actually got a BETTER deal than Tony Romo...you know the STARTING QB for what is considered the best team in the NFC right now....has a QB rating only behind TB....What is Jamarcus' QB rating? Oh yeah he hasn't even completed a pass in the NFL and got a better deal than Tony Romo, a STARTING QB considered by many to be a top NFL QB without completeing a pass. Pathetic...:bricks:

Personally-I'm ESTATIC over this-finally we have stability at the QB position since Aikman(especially after suffering through Quincy, Hutch, Stoner, Wright, Ledslow, Vinny, and a parade of other bums). If anything-Romo has provided us with alot of fire, leadership, and all the intangibles you want from your QB.

BTW-the Jets wanted him 2 years ago-how do you think he would have fared there?

Romo is more consistent than either Palmer or Brees. As strange as it is to say it, Romo is probably the 3rd best QB in the league with Favre 4th and Pennington 5th... oops... just having a flashback to 4 years ago when Pennington was considered an heir to Joe Montana.

Romo deserves his deal; he's done a great job so far this year, and I enjoyed watching him play us. He's charismatic, he leads his team, he allowed himself to smile at the end of the game when sharing some joke or other with Rodney. And when he's hot you can just see how well his team respond to him

That said he's not Manning or Brady, and he might never be. But in this league, where you look around at so many teams struggling by with really poor QBs, this looks like a good deal for Romo, and a good deal for the Cowboys.

He has not earned it and he has not been consistent. He's started the equivalent of one season, and has had more than one horrendous start. I understand what the Cowboys are thinking, and they don't want to let him get away, but that's ridiculous. It's just slightly better than Jamarcus Russell getting $30 mil guaranteed.

My thoughts are the same pats-blue. He's just makes my head shake. I don't really know how he gets it done, but he does and usually wins. That's about all you can ask for these days with your QB play. There really are only few elite QB's in the league (we keep hearing about how good Carson Palmer is so he must be ). A fact lamented by Jaws and Steve Young among others. It just seems to be the state of the game these days. Vinny's still playing, albeit due to injury, and I heard that Jeff George is considering a comeback of sorts.

If you look around the league at this point, how many "franchise" QBs are there? Compared to Brady and Manning Romo doesn't look like much at all. But he's holding his own in the 2nd tier -- and even that 2nd tier is pretty scanty.

Consider the lineup of supposed "up-and-coming," "he's-young-give-him-time," "NFL's future" guys: Campbell, Cutler, E. Manning, Rivers, Young. Every one is a 1st-round pick, most have more game experience than Romo, and he's clearly outplaying every one of them.

The chances of finding a better QB than Romo are slim, you have to cross your fingers and do this deal.
