OT: Remember when this was a Red Sox town?

...and a football town in the Brady years

NFL TV ratings will always outdraw, but folks around here watch. They watch the Sox, Celts & Bruins, win or lose. It's just the saturation of media hype and overemphasis on winning instead of the game, the players and the sport is draining. Of course we want to win, stupid, but nobody always wins and we want to enjoy the game and our team regardless of whether we go all the way.

It really didn't turn into a football town until at least midway through the Brady years though. The first half of the Dynasty, this town was firmly a Red Sox town. As I pointed out in 2003 and early 2004, WEEI was all A-Rod all the time during the Patriots Super Bowl run. Even with three Super Bowl rings in four years, the Red Sox still dominated the talk on WEEI. I would say the dynamics didn't start to change until 2007 when the Patriots had such a dominant team.

I love all 4 teams but Patriots are #1 because the sport of football isn’t completely broken like the other 3 so it’s easier to follow and judge success and failures.

Basketball is financially broken, big 3’s go to the highest bidder, salary cap, but no salary cap as long as your team is rich and can afford the luxury tax. Wtf is that all about? Breaks the fairness with baseball and basketball right away. Red Sox team has been part of that with the big dollar free agents and now living off twins A’s like mentality.

Done with hockey for awhile. Great sport, fun to watch live and play. However, the playoff system is just too squishy. Rarely does the best team ever win. The loss this year was devastating considering what they accomplished. Done.

Again, football is king and there is no question about it.
Agree 100%. Football is easily #1.
But baseball has become fun to watch again with 2 rules changes:
1. The clock, which speeds up the game and reduces the boredom factor 1000%
2. Banning the defensive shifts, which allows your quickest athletes, the middle
infielders,to actually show their skills.
Steals are up. It's a much more aggressive, athletic game.
It's not the same as watching the Patriots, nothing is but it's at least watchable.

Baseballs popularity has plummeted and Footballs has started to dominate...Like you said, started to switch around the 06-08 period id say. 03-04 definitely felt like more of a baseball era
