I love this. It was a 2 second period of time in which the "infraction" was 100% caught on film. What was it about the initial decision that was made in error? Like - what was there to review?

What could possibly have been said in an appeal that was any more convincing than the original tape in which he could have easily laid off, and instead went for the bodyslam?

A decision like this is the very definition of an arbitrary standard. The employment of an arbitrary standard is the exact thing which has lead to Goodell looking like an utter buffoon - yet still they do it.

Also "league did good" is a complete and utter joke. It was mere circumstance that Edelman didn't end up slamming head first into the turf leading to a concussion, NOT anything Ward did to aid player safety. Will Ward's next victim be so lucky when he employs this apparently league sanctioned late hit takedown style of play?

Just bumping this to point out that Eric Rowe was fined $12,154 for his personal foul penalty against the Texans. The rule about pulling players off a pile is clear and Rowe broke it, but it's baffling that Rowe was fined about $3k more than Ward was.

It remains to be seen if Rowe appeals and the fine is reduced or rescinded. If it's not, is the league's message that pulling a guy (or in Rowe's case, trying to pull a guy) off a pile is a more serious offense than a dangerous and unnecessary tackle?

I thought their rationale was especially odd. They stated that since he had a concussion he wasn't in control which is why they took back the fine. But if he had a concussion he shouldn't have been on the field at all, right? So now its ok to put a concussed player back on the field and tell him he can do whatever he wants?
