Very interesting read from Pro Football Weekly on the mess in Cleveland:

ProFootballWeekly.com - Mangini unlikely to survive Browns' disarray

Most enjoyable quote: "Mangini is an ass", from an anonymous NFL executive.

Most interesting gossip: The possibility that Bill Parcells could land in Cleveland: "Yet, the way we hear it, don't be surprised if Parcells himself ends up moving to Cleveland, with sources in the Sunshine State saying that 'the Tuna' has been preparing to turn the keys over to Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland at season's end and seek a new rebuilding project."

I don't buy the Parcells to Cleveland idea. First, Cleveland is too big a mess, and Lerner is part of it. Parcells has nothing to gain at age 68 by taking on another rebuilding project - he can't possible one-up the Miami miracle recovery, and failure in Cleveland would only tarnish his image. I'm not sure he wants to work that hard at his age. Finally, he's living the dream life in Florida, where he owns a home. Dan Shaughnessy had a nice piece about Parcell's cushy life in the Globe this week:

Franchise fixer - The Boston Globe

Supposedly a lot of big name GM candidates being courted by Lerner are very leery of having to come in and work with Mangini. What a shock.

Parcells has to leave Miami while they appear to be on the rebound. Stay too long as they regress under Sparano and his turn around is tarnished.

Parcell's will get out of Miami soon, although he still could keep his home there. I am sure he can afford it.
The wildcat isn't unique anymore. They caught lightning in a bottle last year, surprising several teams. The good teams have learned how to defend it. I don't see the Phins finishing better than 8-8 or 9-7 this year and out of the playoffs.
Parcell's needs to move on, otherwise the bandaids he put in place will need to be changed.
The last two teams he left, Jets and Cowboys had a downturn right after his exit....

The high level exec who called him an ass apparently knows both Mangini and McDaniels. Wouldn't be surprised if it's Pioli.

Mangini reading European leadership books. Who wrote them? Stalin? Mussolini? How long before he starts putting employees on staged trials and ordering executions.

“I just know when we first came into New England, they’d come off an 8-8 season, and there had to be a lot of transition,’’ Mangini said. “It was top-heavy financially, there were tough decisions that had to be made, and we didn’t have much success that first year. There are remarkable similarities between the situations.

Redskins Insider - Will Larry Johnson be the new RB?

I wonder if those "remarkable similarities" include the players loathing him. Someone should ask Fredo about that.

Dimitroff?

Likely one of those two. Putting everything in perspective now, I'm sure BB and the organization had a celebration dinner when the Jets hired a guy they couldn't wait to get rid of.

Also, a huge difference between the organization is that Belichick has always delegated duties to people he knows will be responsible. Scott Pioli, Romeo Crennell, Charlie Weis, Josh McDaniels, Dan Dimitroff. Mangini clearly doesn't get it.

One man's too big a mess is Tuna's ideal challenge. Besides, he doesn't like the ownership in Miami and has a clause in his contract that stipulated if he decides to walk because the team was sold he can do so with full pay. Add to that what Lerner would pay him and the infrastructure developer he's looking for and you have the perfect formula for another Tuna turnaround. And unless he believes Miami is going to the post season again in 2010, there is no way he hangs around for any criticism or unraveling of the infrastructure he built there.

Nobody worth his salt is coming in to work with Mangini unless it's someone like Tuna who would essentially relegate him to assistant HC and DC. I think the deciding factor will be how much Lerner wants to pay and how many of "his guys" Parcell's believes he has access to at this juncture to make a move with him. He won't do it unless he has the makings of a new staff like the one he brought to Miami from Dallas available.

Short and right to the point. There's not much else to say

"Mangini unlikely to survive Browns' disarray" His resume just keeps growing-couldn't happen to a nicer coach
